I hate to be an armchair know it all marketer but to me the Wii-U's marketing campaign made no sense whatsoever. The entire purpose and point of the Wii was that it came out alongside the serious Microsoft and Sony Consoles as well as PC and said "Well we do silly gimmick games that are a laugh, fun for the family, great for parties and will challenge/offend no one! Also we're cheaper!" And courted the casual market. As a result so many familes, old people, kids, non-gamers etc had Wiis. That was their core audience. Going "Now he's our sequel console to that casual console and we're calling it the Wii-U that makes it sound like an add-on. Wanna buy it!" isn't going to sell to that crowd. Why would mother Jones who bought a Wii to play Wii-Fit buy a Wii-U? Why would Grandpa Joe who bought a Wii to shut his ADHD grandkids up when his family came to visit buy a Wii-U?
