Do you get extra diarrhea with a French press?

my life is spent wavering between constipation and diarrhea so I can't really comment on coffee's effects, it's not consistent in terms of what it does to me

not very at first but apparently it is pretty hipsterish so I'll give it a 9/10, I'm going to throw this into the street soon so I can free myself from this shackle

I've been using a French Press for about 5 years. I prefer it, hands down. The flavor of coffee is so much better to me via French Press.

other than the process being a bit annoying it's pretty nice and the taste is better than i expected

bodum brazil

it's not that, it's the like 10 minutes of total time preparing it and waiting before it's time to drink it

boiling water, grinding coffee, letting it steep

Yeah, that's true.

@Darkman124 does a cold brew with a french press I think. You might like that, too.

ah, I did that over the weekend and it wasn't bad at all, made a simple syrup to go along with that. I still have a bit left for the next day or two

it's also cheaper than a keurig and not really any pricier to buy whole bean than grounds for drip coffee

i regularly cold brew, often to make a flavor addition to my beers. just overnight at room temp ('cold' is a relative term) soaking the freshly ground beans is enough

I prefer a nutty coffee, so if you like that, look for coffee with Pecan or Hazelnut accents.

I will try one of those out and see how I like it

yeah, you either make concentrate I guess and dilute it or you just keep making it over and over which is annoying. it is nice if you just want one cup for sure whereas with the french press I feel silly just making 1 cup's worth because the one I have is for a liter's worth

I have a french press as well and will never go back to anything other than this.

How long do you wait between adding the water --> performing the press --> pouring a cup?

I wait 4 minutes after adding the water to perform the press and then immediately poor a cup.

lol when it's 1 cup I don't see how it's that different from boiling water and letting it steep then pouring it thru a strainer

30 seconds to a minute after boiling, then 4 minutes once I add the water, then pour immediately after pressing

I preheat my press with just boiling water for like a minute then i empty the water

i bloom the coffee where i fill it with water just enough to cover the grounds for like 40 seconds, i leave it uncovered for this

then i add the remaining water and wait 4 minutes with the cover on

do you think the blooming changes the flavor?

I think I will try that, but does preheating the press with boiling water really matter? I am just using hot water from the sink when I preheat it cause it gets really hot anyway, though i don't really understand why I am preheating it

you apparently lose a lot of heat if you put hot water directly into the french press thats been sitting at room temp cuz the glass would be pretty cold at that point

I guess I'll see if it really makes a huge difference for me, I boil water on the stove and don't wait too long before pouring so if I'm losing any heat it might not be that big of a deal since it's fresh off a boil
