When I was thirteen or so I helped my dad and stepmom clean out a house for their landlord in exchange for a cut in rent. The house was jammed packed with garbage and clothes and I remember when I was filling trash bags in the basement full of wet clothes I came across six empty dildo boxes and a Sonic 3 cart with a Genesis that had been split right in half.

It was all pretty gross and I couldn't understand back then how the house could have gotten that bad.

A widowed mother of an old school friend. She had stacks of newspapers piled up, that almost reached the ceiling. She had boxes of junk all over the place. One room you literally couldn't even walk across in, as it was littered with bags of old clothes and useless crap.
She was a weird woman. My friend had an older brother who was incredibly ashamed of her antics and made sure his room was 'normal' and kept spotlessly clean and tidy.
House smelt musty as well. Gross.

My wife's aunt has hoarder tendencies. She was a crazy cat lady who wasn't the most diligent about cleaning up after her pets too. I went to her place once and it was revolting. Trash and dirty dishes, a bunch of cats, the smell was nauseating, and there were a lot of little roaches running around.

She lives with us now and we don't allow cats in doors, but she's got a half dozen she feeds outside. Supposedly to keep rodents and pests away. Her closet is packed with a bunch of stuff and her room is really cluttered.

I live with one. Granted he organizes everything, it's still a bunch of shit he'll never use.

Kinda sucks because I try to manage with some crates for clothes and a storage bin and apparently that takes up too much space. Can't even kick shit under my bed.

Thank you for understanding the difference between a large collection, and a hoard. That distinction is not made often enough.
