NOVEL SPOILERS
It's been a while since I read the book but did they really "kill" it? I am not sure it can be killed. didn't they just banish it for a while? I got the impression it could come back someday. maybe not to menace the same people but perhaps future generations. it's a god from the beginning of the universe.

It's still alive in the dimension that it resides. They just killed the physical form that was in theirs
