Had to deal with it a bit myself growing up, but at least my parents weren't super religious or anything, they were just from the 60's and 70's so their upbringing came from a different era. I imagine a lot of these guys at the very least must have grown up with some kind of closet case for a father who must have hated gays and really had it out for them, filling their kids heads with hateful propaganda because they hated themselves or something.
