my school library used to do that, and make the kid sign next to the stamp. It was so cool as a middle schooler to open up a book and see one of the super cool high school kids you looked up to had used the book like 4 years before

"I see here you took this book out last January and you're a bit late returning it..."

Wait, how good a friend is this? Because the end of my story depends greatly on that info. <_< >_>

Just another way our childhood innocence has been stolen.

I just borrowed a book, and it didn't even have a remnant due date slip from the olden days. It's all online now.

I'll be honest, I took secret pleasure in the majority of the stamps on the slip in The Authoritative Calvin and Hobbes (it was the only one I lacked until I bought the hard cover volumes) being mine.

It might. If I recall those were used in elementary school, so they may still be in circulation. It was cool seeing which people in the classes above you had those books. Sometimes you'd find their doodles or old boogers in it lol.

Yeah I always enjoyed the history of those things. I'd go, "wow this book is old. The first person who used it is like 40 now!"

There is some lying around the house that dates back to the late 60s.

You can also read some strange shit in those books because of how knowledge of things have changed.

Right now looking at a Department Of Defense handbook dated 1968.
