I only really liked Ark of Napishtim and Oath in Felghana. I hated I & II (but still beat them) and the 3D entries just didn't interest me enough to keep playing them.

Do you have to play the first game or in order to be able to get the series? Nope. They're all contained little stories. They just have the same main character basically --- "This is your last dance." ... Copied to Clipboard!

The gameplay in the first two games is terrible compared to the rest of the series. At least try one of the games where combat doesn't rely on you bumping into enemies. iirc, the main character loses his memory in Ark of Napishtim (and probably others), so you start off not knowing anything anyway. ... It's the same type of gameplay as those two but basically perfects the system from Felghana. Vertania posted... Yeah... no. Don't do that. I second this. The Ys games don't really have any remarkable story that requires playing the games in order. Adol is a typical one-dimensional JRPG good guy, with zero depth or nuance. The only thing you need to know if that he has an adventure buddy named Dogi, and you have the sufficient background for any of the games. --- - The Admiral ... Copied to Clipboard!
