Why would you want the save tied to the cart instead of on the sd/system memory?

That's how Nintendo used to do it, back in the 64 days, but they've grown up

? I haven't owned a Nintendo since Wii but typically saves go to system not the card.

Some cartridge games on N64 required a Memory Pak to save data because all the space on the cartridge was being used. I imagine the same is with the Switch carts.
