Both partners should contribute to the household, it's up to them to decide what form that takes and what's fair.

Maybe I've changed and everyone else has changed, but you haven't changed, so you're the one who's changed, because it's all relative!

Uh, no. My wife and I both have careers, we jointly own the house and pay 50% each every month.

Fuck no, you shouldn't even be living together if you're not equally capable of contributing to the partnership somehow.

I honestly don't care if my (future, theoretical) husband makes less than me. He must be educated and intelligent, though.

This.

I'm the one with the salary and desire for things that drive up the rent like a large kitchen and additional rooms.

He's the one who's still in college doing part time work and otherwise living off loans/grants, and if given the option would be content living in a shoebox.

So the lion's share falls monetarily to me. Not because of stupid gender roles (also, we're two dudes), but because of circumstance and preferences. In exchange he does more domestic duties like laundry and house cleaning, although recently the chap's been slacking on 'em.

I see stuff like "real men don't let their woman pay half the rent" all the time on social media and I think it's absolute BS.

If I'm with a woman and she holds a career just like me (the only type of woman I would date), then I'm sorry but I'm not paying a cent over 50% of the rent. Nor would I expect her to clean up after me. I would expect half on all of those duties.
