I don't know what OP is talking about but South Florida is an absolute mess.

It could have been worse since it was projected to be a category 5 hurricane when it made landfall in the Key.

Looking how bad it destroyed the Caribbean, it's fair to say the same would happen to FL.

People were expecting the Keys to no longer exist, and Miami to end up like the Houston pictures

Exactly. Millions are expected to be without power for FOUR TO FIVE WEEKS! Holy crap!

Miami is basically un-liveable at this point. A friend I know goes to school there, and isn't expecting to return to classes until Mid-October

As I posted in another topic,

Some people are completely ridiculous.

Just because the storm's trajectory changed and you were lucky and suffered tropical storm to category 1 winds doesn't mean a lot of people didn't get completely ****ed.

Just look up images and videos of the Florida keys and cities along with the western coast of Florida, like Naples. Not to mention the catastrophic damage dealt on its way to the US.

lmao @ people saying it was overhyped. This thing was a complete monster. I'm lucky I only had to go through tropical storm and category 1 winds and rain and that I was more inland.

The trajectory didn't change. Irma had a path and it went on that path. The problem is our metorolgist fucking suck. We didn't get lucky. There is no luck involved.

It was/IS. It's not that hard to understand. This hurricane was much larger and more powerful than Andrew. Andrew hit our area directly in 1992; Irma did not. Not to mention the building codes became much more stringent and robust after the Hurricane Andrew. Furthermore, we were much more prepared for Irma than we were for Andrew.

Even with the more robust code and week long preparations, the damage would've been incredible if it had hit us directly.

I'm not going to comment on the global warming stuff. Just saying that this hurricane was by no means hyped up, and it's an insult for people who have nothing to do with the situation, and were not affected to be spewing this nonsense.

Jesus the amount of ignorance is astounding. Yes, there is luck involved. In any given hurricane season, you can be very lucky or unlucky with a hurricane hits you. You have no control over this. And yes a hurricane's trajectory can change based on a multitude of factors.

And guess what? Even if Miami didn't get hit, the whole of Florida was warned to prepare for a possible hurricane hit. The west coast have a lot of cities that got compeltely ****ed. To say this storm was overhyped after all the damage and death it's caused is an insult.

Not going to comment on the climate agenda debate, but how was this storm not powerful enough?

I don't doubt that, but the sad thing there are a lot of people who literally think because their area received the outskirts of the storm (Tropical storm winds), that means that's what everyone got. Imagine living in that kind of bubble.

I mean Harvey was still a thing. 4 powerful hurricanes back to back. Look at the records and you see hurricanes getting stronger and more frequent.
