Why should we hold on to tradition where the child always gets the father's last name? I would not put up with a woman who would try ruining the kid's reputation nor the bs idea that she keeps her last name and I keep mine. Just as she was entirely free to refuse for the kids to take my name only and have a hyphenated name for the kids, I'd expect her to hold to that as well and be okay with me not wanting our kids to only have her name. In this circumstance, we'd have kids with hyphenated surnames, simple as that. Thankfully, she willingly took my last name and our four kids have my last name only, so problem avoided.
