Arrow may be getting political once again in an upcoming episode of season 6. After a divisive topical episode in season 5, Arrow showrunner Marc Guggenheim wants to tackle the Black Lives Matter movement in season 6.

If fans wonder what approach Arrow will take in regard to the issue, ‘Spectre of the Gun’ could provide clues. The show’s first politically themed episode had Team Arrow members Rene and Curtis (Echo Kellum) clash over the issue with Rene opposing gun control and Curtis in support of it. The show’s ending didn’t try to prove either character right, instead opting to provide a bipartisan solution that left both characters pleased. Arrow could repeat this tactic in season 6 by continuing to present viewpoint from both sides. It could be seen as an effective way to avoid offending half of the show’s fan base. It’s unclear if the episode will directly feature Black Lives Matter or if it will create a new group that will simply be based on the movement.

Oh god no, that gun control episode last season was so cringe-inducing lol. Low budget superhero shows is not the avenue to advocate change.

Spoils for that episode and some minor shit from the rest of the season

Random mass shooting occurs in city hall. Oliver (the main character) is the Mayor of Star City and wants to propose some gun control laws for the city to respond to the attack. There's some generic monster of the week villain doing stuff, but that's mostly in the background as each character has their own opinion on gun control that has to be shared! Some are opposed to it, some are for it, but you can tell it was a bunch of comic book writers coming up with the dialogue because it was all the same boring talking points you see people on CE bring up. Then at the end Ollie compromises with a particularly far-right councilwoman on "common sense" gun control that will preserve all of our freedom but keep the guns out of the hands of bad guys. They never explain what this policy is, of course, then it ends.

One of the characters lost a family member to guns.

Oliver's workplace is also shot up by a mass shooter in the episode. That's what starts it.

Oliver also lost friends to bows and arrows, right? So clearly he should support bow control as well

I never said it was Oliver and I never said what his opinion was.

Maybe watch the episode if you wanna whine about it. I'm not saying it's good but your complaints are some of the things actually talked about in the episode.

It's not really that far fetched for people that use guns (Diggle, Wild Dog) and vigilantes that are constantly taking down illegal weapons dealers would have some kind of opinion on gun control.

Green Arrow being a "limousine liberal" is one of his major character traits that Arrow never really showed, (Until recently I guess? Didn't watch past S4). He and Green Lantern even had a comic series in the 70's where they went on road trip across America tackling social issues (it's where the infamous Speedy becoming a junkie thing started).

That's stupid! Comics have never tackled political topics before! KEEP POLITICS OUT OF MUH STUFF

Actually, in Arrow comics Black Canary talks about Mansplaining, and other "issues" and Arrow is an open Liberal.

Black lives matter is violent though and they aren't umm. Smart.

Yeah, the irony of Green Arrow of all shows doing this episode is positively blinding.

Why wouldn't you do this in that Black Thunder show they're launching this fall about the retired black superhero?

man... I can already feel the cringe. the gun control episode had me rolling my eyes cause the arguments were the same ones you always hear and it felt forced. I wonder who the anti-blm team member will be if they're doing the same thing again, cause I can't really see it being any of them, but who knows
