I just beat Bloodborne for the first time and I don't really get that the game's combat is more aggressive than DS, which is what I've heard. I still just dodgeroll and swing my weapon a bunch, which I thought was already kind of aggressive.

You don't have the option to block which requires more aggressive play. Of course you can play Dark Souls like that, but Bloodborne was built around it.

You've played Dark Souls, yes? Other than the differences in theme (European gothic horror vs medieval themed), you should know that Dark Souls forces you to memorize, strategize, and be patient. Bloodborne forces you to be aggressive and attack, not sit back and defend.

It's part of the reason why I don't use shields. I find them a crutch in Dark Souls, so I'd rather get better at dodging and soaking damage until I'm good enough to no longer soak damage. Only time I use them is to parry shit.

I haven't gotten very far in any of the games, played a little of them all. But I do notice a difference myself. Dark Souls feels more defensive to me. One of the reasons why I think I suck the most at Bloodborne. Cause I think I am better at defensive play.

That's admirable and all but just way more trouble than it's worth. I'd pull my hair out using that style of play vs Artorious, Orn/Smough, Nameless King, Fume Knight, etc. lol

But see I feel you do a comparable amount of memorizing, strategizing, and being patient in BB as well. Concerning bosses, memorizing their tells is just as important as it was in DS.

Yes, but the game is built around being aggressive and picking your spots. You gain back HP lost by attacking your opponent immediately upon receiving damage, for crying out loud.
