I realize my opinion is probably antiquated and not the norm but to me the real backbone of games and gaming is the single player challenge. Yes I realize multiplayer goes all the way back to games like Pong but the fact that the single player only experiences are fading away, at least in popularity, and these huge community based multiplayer games are owning the mindshare instead, bums me out. I honestly don't even necessary consider them games in the traditional sense because to me, gameplay and design are king and the players ability to adapt to that is what defines a game to me.

In other words pur down your Overwatch and Destiny and go buy Knack 2 today.

WoW fits most of the criteria you laid out though.

I was sort of with you in the past but games these days are enhanced by multiplayer in a lot of ways.

Not in every way and certainly not in every genre but they do.

Exceptions are RPGs and some platformers but even Mario Bros 1-3 are far more fun when you compete against a friend.

I feel like multiplayer only games are like comedians who swear a lot. its easy to be funny when you curse, and its easy to be fun when you got other people to play with.

My only problem with multiplayer gaming is 98% of people are completely stupid. I have to play with people I know to get anywhere.

not like multiplayer games don't have gameplay or design or adapting... in fact multiplayer tends to have more adapting since you're playing against a wider variety of people with different playstyles and strategies than just a single AI opponent


I do agree with you though that it's kinda saddening the focus on multiplayer over singleplayer recently
