you understand that movies are fictional and feature characters that have been created for the film, right? they're not real people

sure

but there's nothing wrong with what christina hendricks is doing

which is calling to attention the broader problem america/hollywood has with body image
she's a professional, i'm sure she understood

but I can imagine it gets grating to know you didn't get a job because someone thought you look too curvy to be intelligent enough to be a doctor

or something like that

I'm 100% sure I could act better than the majority of any given supporting cast.

I've never gone out to audition but if I did and was rejected are you really gonna start bitching about how the industry is unfair to me?

what basis do you have to say you are better than anyone at acting if you haven't even gone out to an audition?

About the same as she did when she made the initial comment in the OP.

Tons of acting experience in stage plays and theatre programs.

None of her previous experience means jack shit in regards to this role. Unless you're doing a sequel or spinoff none of your previous experience matters.

Connections do though.

I don't think it's something to be ashamed of to get a role because you fit the image for that character they were imagining.

It's true of old men, short people, fat people, sexy women, etc. all the fucking time.

But is it fine to not get a role because you aren't what they imagined?

In this instance, she is claiming that it was wrong for the evaluation to be based on her curves than her acting.

Yes, but she's also ignoring the fact that physical appearance is a big part of that industry.

If she wants to be a puritan have her go do stage productions.

It's so stupid.

Personality types and figures are one and the same to Hollywood. If you have breasts, you're the chick everyone wants to bang and nothing more. Scarlet Johansson's career took off after she got a reduction. She had to chop off pieces of her body to fit the Hollywood mold of what a protagonist should look like. That's fucked up. (And I'd probably think so even if I wasn't a boob man.)

I don't think anyone's denying physical appearance is a big part of Hollywood. The question people are asking is, should it continue to be?

If they don't think she was right for the role, that's their call. She is hot as fuck, doesn't that mean she should get any role she tries for? Ridiculous.

Yes. Conan starring Edward Norton, a superior actor to Arnold, would be fucking trash.

I mean, it really depends. Do we want movies that make a lot of money? If so we need to dispel the "sex sells" belief, assuming it's not really the truth.

We also need to determine what the industry is based on. It's not based on acting, there's a reason they theatre industry and the movie industry aren't buddy buddy. Great actors are there, don't get me wrong. I firmly believe that the appeal of the actors disposition and physical appearance determines their success far more than their acting ability though.

I'm pretty conflicted. I think it's gotta be a solid balance. It would be like saying models shouldn't be the type they are but there's a reason why they have the title "model" assuming it's not some instagram model.

I personally don't think I'd ever work in the movie industry myself so it's hard to have sympathy for those who do but aren't as successful as they'd like. It's a business. Business is ruthless.
