Problem is we have allies who expect us to protect them and quite frankly it's in our interests to do so. We have a lot of economic and geopolitical incentive to do so(plus many thousands of American citizens are in SK and Japan as tourists or on business/visiting family so if war broke out they are at risk) and South Korea and Japan obviously like having the strongest country in the world on their side when they have a lunatic with bombs next door.

China has made an official statement saying they are not at all happy with NK too, encouraging them to stop.

NK keeps escalating things more and more. It wouldn't surprise me if they finally do decide to launch an attack. I pray it doesn't come to that. If it does, NK must strike first. If the US or anyone else strikes first, they become the bad guy and allies like China will be more obligated to openly help them. On the other hand if NK keeps going and attacks someone first, China and others may decide that NK has become too much a liability and will cut ties.

Praying war does not come...

Blow up Seoul ourselves? I mean you're essentially asking, "how do we stop caring if NK nukes 25 million people?"

Their entire government is sustained off the idea that the US gives a shit if they kill 25 million people. That's why it's so messy.

china isn't willing to take action though iirc. and like I said, Seoul is going to get fucked no matter what happens I think. if someone decides to strike, they will fire on SK hard in retaliation, just because they know that they themselves are absolutely fucked. rough situation.

I'm beginning to feel like this is WWII where countries just kept appeasing Hitler figuring that he couldn't possibly start another war...only to have him go ahead and so anyways.

Obviously it's a tough situation with no "best" answer...but at the end of the day we're still dealing with a crazy person who's used to getting what he wants and doing what he wants no matter what.

A key difference is the power NK has.

Germany was pretty strong. They had scientists who were arguably at the forefront of miliitary technology. And had some allies and non aggression pacts. NK army is basically a oversized infantry, some artillery and generally outdated tech. They are playing catch up with tech their enemies have had for decades. They also have 1 ally and even that ally barely tolerates them.

They do not have power projection. The only country they could invade with any hope of real success(and only if said countries allies don't step in quick) is South Korea. Their navy and air force are laughable. Their economy is pathetic and their food and natural resources aren't exactly plentiful.

Not to say that a war with NK would be a easy battle won in a matter of days. Unless you decide to glass the entire country which would be a terrible idea in most potential circumstances.
