Like, if I just stream every time I play a video game (no commentary or anything), can I make money?
I have honestly never understood the point of twitch at all tbh (I have zero desire to ever watch people play games), but apparently people are into it. Can I make money from playing video games while putting in minimal effort?

You need subscribers to make money off Twitch

You most likely won't get subscribers (lasting subscribers anyway) from putting in minimal effort unless you're a hot girl or something

Ads and subscribers.

You can be a millionaire as a successful streamer. Most people make nothing.

No

Many of these people have put time in to entertain and build an audience to the point of creating a community. After a couple of years or more they became partnered with Twitch and receive money through donations and ad revenue.

Some have become popular enough to make their Twitch stream their primary form of income. It's their actual job from home doing what they enjoy and joining in with others.

Yes it seems odd for this to come from just playing video games. Of course there are jobs with video game companies that do the same, just not with the fan interaction, but you get payed for it.

Then be charismatic and jump on the newest social media. Instead of asking how subscribers and ads work.

At the very least you need an initial value of 40 followers.

Interact with viewers. If they have questions, answer them, preferably rather quickly. Even if there's no one posting in chat, be able to have a conversation with yourself because there's also a lot of people who just like to lurk and will run streams in the background. Multitasking is a pretty important part of being an entertaining streamer. Some games are also more fun to watch than others, so keep that in mind if you're trying to go for a big audience. It's probably easier if the stream hits a certain size because viewers can also interact with each other and will keep things active even when you can't.

You can if you're:

A) Extremely skilled at a popular game
B) Charismatic enough to carry you if you're bad at videogames
C) A moderately attractive girl willing to degrade yourself for thirsty losers
D) Able to make amazing emotes that people sub to you just for those

You won't be able to put in minimal effort and make money at it, it takes time and effort to build up a community that sticks with you and who will want to support you. Also, going in with the aim to make money isn't a very good way to do it as that's going to show to your viewers. You need to want to do it and the rest comes naturally.

No commentary probably won't work too well either, the interaction with viewers is a big part of what builds the community. People are generously subbing to me and cheering with bits enough to where it's worth, like, $100/month to me right now, and I didn't go into it figuring on reaching any return on it, I just naturally narrate myself when I play, make sure to say hi to everybody I can that comes in, and crack some jokes. It's very relaxed. That resonates with a lot of people, apparently.

So anyway, no, you won't make anything going in with the mindset you are. You need to figure out first if you want to have an audience and will enjoy it, and let the rest come.

No. Every dork with a PC or the means to stream is thinking the same thing you are. Twitch is crowded as f.
My cousin, who is a "guuurllll gaeemmmerr" has been streaming for like five years and finally got twitch partnership. she has an active view base, but even then makes barely anything off it

With Twitch Prime, it's a lot easier for people to just throw their free subs at you. I think, not totally sure, that the cut streamers get from Twitch is different based on whether it's that free sub or a $5 they actually spent.

As for why people would spend money, it's just people trying to support something they enjoy viewing. My friend streams cosplay crafting and video games to supplement her standard income and to afford more cosplay. She offers crafting advice and the like so people actually feel they're getting something out of it, and if they appreciate it, they'll donate a dollar or something.

No. If you want to be successful on twitch you need to either be funny, skilled at the games you're playing or be a hot girl.
