escort missions suck regardless so


Obviously both can be good if the game is designed around them, but they're both terrible when they're not in games that are. I'm going to have to go with forced stealth gameplay because of how frustrating it is, even compared to forced escort missions.

I don't like being forced to do either but I actually like to stealth or stealth kill stuff in games when possible anyway so I guess I'd prefer being forced to stealth

I hate being under time pressure in games, so I hate escorts too unless I get to lead them forward rather than them leading me forward

Forced stealth can be fine if the stealth is designed okay. Forced escort (hell, escort in general whether it's forced or not) always sucks.

Neither is necessarily bad but I've seen way more terrible tacked-on stealth sections than terrible tacked-on escort sections. At least with most escort missions the developers don't make the whole thing trial-and-error like in those countless terribad "and then the guy suddenly turns around mid-step with no warning just to screw over the player" stealth missions.

Stealth is better.

Escort missions are fucking awful, especially when the escort just runs into mobs. Escorts that stick with you aren't THAT bad.

Nothing wrong with stealth. Escort missions suck. The person you're escorting is always scared, weak and unable to do certain things. Makes the job harder for no reason.

I consolidate all "guide this character, keep this character or structure alive, and anything that involves protecting something else" under the escort mission term. In which case, it appears all the time.

I guess TLoU might count but your allies don't actually seem capable of dying.

I know Sully can die in at least one part of Uncharted 1, too, but it takes some serious neglect.

stealth is generally not so bad even in non stealth games, in my experience. escorting on the other hand is almost always awful (though it can be interesting imo it just never is)

Even stealth in OoT was fun.


This. The Gerudo fort remains one of my favorite segments of the game (but my KO fetish is no-doubt leaning heavily on my bias in this case).

And of course it's no contest when compared to forced escort missions. Those have ruined entire games for me (looking at you, Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together).
