My last two have broke within 2 years. One with a bad hinge (HP) and one (Asus) where the sound hardware is fucked up.

I've had a HP for about 4 years now and it's still working fine. My brother as well

For the love of god though, don't get Lenovo. We have them at work and so many of us have had different problems with them consistently. It's thoroughly convinced me to never buy that brand.

agreed, every lenovo laptop ive ever bought has had some kind of problem (screen and wifi seem to be huge issues) that required me either returning it to the store or sending it in for service. I will not buy another one of their products again.

I'd suggest HP, Dell, or Acer (they stepped up their quality a lot in the last few years but still have stigma to the brand name, so you can get good quality stuff with nice specs for a lower price than the big guys).
