Does WotC affect the original gameplay or is it an expansion at the end, or what?

What's the ideal play experience?

From what I've seen of WotC, it adds a ton of content that the base game needed to differentiate it from the first game. I haven't personally played it, though, so take that with a grain of salt.

One other person I asked about it told me to just play WotC and that it made the game better.

You ever play any of the Civilization expansions? From what I understand, WotC is very much in that model; it's not a separate campaign or attached at the end, but an overhaul of the game's core systems. Reviews say to just jump right in with the expansion.

Alright I'll just get everything and go in with it.

I played Xcom 1 fairly little, and I know almost nothing about Xcom 2, so pretty much every mechanic will be a new mechanic for me.

And yeah, I've played every rendition of Civ since Civ 3. Those are games where you definitely DO want the expansions.

So I understand this game is pretty complicated and has a lot of things to learn in it, so I'm gonna make my first game be just of XCOM2, no WotC. After I get the hang of the base game, I'll try WotC.


I think having too many extra items and features would overwhelm me.

I don't know whether I want to play on rookie or veteran.

The last time I played Xcom1 I had a really difficult time and was too stubborn to lower the difficulty.

Veteran is fair and leaves plenty of room for error, not to mention the gap between veteran and commander is narrower than that of rookie and veteran

So far I've felt like I've had the capacity to lose every mission I've been on. Definitely not too easy.
