Yeah, the green ranger in sentai footage died, but that's not really an excuse to use another sentais costume. They were already putting in a lot of effort to splice footage of the white ranger into zyuranger stuff, why not just stick with the og green ranger and do the same?

Initially they did.

When footage of Burai was used up JDF left the show and was meant to be the star of a new upcoming Saban show called Cybertron. However fan mail was pouring in for the return of Tommy and so they created original footage to fit him into storylines.

(Cybertron would be reworked and become VR Troopers)

After this Saban ran out of Zyuranger footage and contacted Toei asking them to create all new monster costumes and new footage filmed in Japan exclusive to Power Rangers. This allowed them to continue using the Green Ranger costume. They also added in Power Ranger elements in the morphed scenes, such as Billy being the brains of the group, Tommy and Kimberly's relationship, and teleporting.

Episodes 41-60 of Season 1, and episodes 1-13 of Season 2 are what some fans refer to as Zyu2.

Saban decided for some reason to mix things up before they used up all of their Zyu2 footage and began adapting Dairanger ahead of time. So at the start of Season 2 we see Zyu2 footage of the monsters, and any time the monster is fighting the Dragonzord, but they spliced in the Thunder Megazord over the Dino Megazord scenes (hence why they're never in the same shot together).

S2 E13 is where Tommy loses his powers for good as there was no more footage to use. The following episode is where Dairanger monster footage officially begins.

3 episodes later they adapted Dairanger's Kibaranger into the White Ranger and gave the powers to Tommy. Dairanger already had a green ranger among their main 5. His mech was more black than green however and was a perfect fit for Zack. Saban kept the Zyuranger costumes for the others as to not have 2 green rangers on the show.

Initially sentai teams had 4 male rangers and 1 female (who would typically be pink). It wasn't until the 8th series Bioman that Yellow became female and they started having two girls per team.

However the Yellow position from then on would still sometimes be filled by a male character, and some series didn't have yellow at all with the second (or only) female ranger being white or blue.

Wow, thanks for the post. I was actually going to do research about this because I'm aware that Saban originally didn't want to transition to Dairanger in fear of losing ratings, but I never knew this much detail about it.

That felt like a board decision. "We need a jock, a nerd, a black guy, and 2 girls because that's what marketing says gives us the broadest demographic appeal"

Oh there's alot more. This was my abridged version lol.

Saban didn't adapt the Dairanger villains the Gorma Tribe and their foot soldiers the Cotpotros. Instead creating Lord Zedd and the Z Putties.

Saban kept the enlarging bombs, and one of the Gorma members Colonel Shadam appeared in his metallic form as Mondo the Magician in an awkward 2-part Power Rangers episode. (who had a pitiful showing and was "destroyed" very easily)

Season 3 had even more changes when they adapted Kakuranger.

Lokar fled in both of his appearances in Power Rangers to my knowledge. His sentai counterpart wasn't so lucky.

anybody know why kakuranger never got a full season here tho?

Nobody ever really mentions the alien rangers again until Super Megaforce. Hell, i think they were skipped over in that Dino Force episode showing past rangers.

Well we got the Zords, Ninjor and villains from Kakuranger. Their foot soldiers were replaced by the Tenga Warriors.

Sure it was neat to see them use the Kakuranger footage and costumes for the Aliens. Very odd designs.
