dont think of it as a live action version of death note and more of a "what if the death note fell in front of a wimp in america instead of a genius with a god complex in japan" and you'll be k.

It's a somewhat faithful adaptation that suffers from poor pacing due to it being a 120 minute movie. The time skip happens so soon and no character really gets a chance to show off how smart they are. The Death Note sequel looks promising though.

Yeah, no.

Everything that made the anime great, especially the interaction between L and Light is missing. Both their intellect is being thrown aside, and this movie relies more on shock and some gore, rather than the intricacies of the series.

The only good thing about the movie was Dafoe as Ryuk.

In fact, I think one of the directors outright admitted they tried to intentionally subvert as much of the original plot as possible. Light and Mia practically switch roles.
