Sure there has been monetary damage, but has there even been a reported death yet?

They were acting like this was going to be Katrina 2.0.

It's too early to tell since one of the major threats is flooding from sustained rainfall over the course of days. And another threat is the potential of it going back into the gulf, strengthening and coming back into Texas.

Also it was a category 4 IIRC hurricane when it made landfall, and wasn't it pretty much a direct hit on a coastal city? There's likely lives lost from that, unless by some miracle EVERY evacuated. But it's not like a high score for the hurricane's death count is going to appear on some neon board, and it's a storm still in progress so the full damage even that's just been done now won't be known yet.

Probably not. More likely people are smart enough to take appropriate precautions and have the means to do so. As for deaths, there is one confirmed:

http://www.cnn.com/2017/08/26/us/hurricane-harvey-landfall/index.html

Besides, we're talking a category 3 versus a category 5. And Katrina will remain unique in its devastation due to the unique geography and infrastructure shortcomings of New Orleans.

Katrina made landfall as a 3, in actual fact this one was stronger at landfall.

Going to wiki, it actually made landfall twice.

Once as a tropical storm, then returning to the gulf to return as a 3 by the time it hit Louisiana.

The more you know.

The hurricane only just landed and you are already trying to claim it's not a big deal. People have already died from it, and it hasn't even gotten halfway through its deluge yet.

We can hope for the best, but for now we should take all the precautions in case the next week piles on further inches (or feet) of water.

15 trillion gallons of water has been dumped on Texas. some places received 50 in. of rain. 60 in. of rain is considered a one-in-a-million years scenario. This is one of the worst and most devastating natural disasters in USA's history

To be fair, it was dumb to claim that this storm is underwhelming when it wasn't even half way done running its course.

And it's curving right back into the gulf, most likely. From the tone of your first post you were obviously very skeptical. You ate your own words. This is probably WORSE than Katrina.

Yeah, his reasons for not telling everyone to evacuate don't sound super awful considering last time people got stuck like that there were casualties.

I downplayed the hurricane on Friday and now my house is flooded and I'm staying at a family member's home. Since we live near Addick reservoir I've heard it may stay that way for weeks.
Honestly, I'd say people were downplaying Harvey way too much. I was looking at reddit before Friday and people were posting about it not being all that dangerous.

That a great way to catch a number of nasty infections including Legionnaire's disease. It should be common knowledge that wading in floodwaters without any protection should be the last resort in populated areas as all of the untreated sewage and various sharp debris get mixed together.
