I've had people telling me it's been amazing for years

I finally go to Chicago, and grab a pizza while I'm there

I love a crunchy thin crust

Chicago makes great thin crust that the closest I can get anywhere else is papa John's. Even Rosati's which is a local chain makes a delicious thin crust.

Can't bitch about it then. Had pizza from this Chicago styled joint named Armand's. Located in Maryland. Remember it being exceptionally good. Look up local joints with high acclaim. Always better than chains.

No other pizza has the perfect consistency of crunchy and soft. It's incredibly greasy, so I understand why some people don't like it. But the unique way of eating it and the way it's made is incomparable

Dunno about New York but Chicago has lots of different pizza. Personally deep dish has never been my favorite. I prefer the thin "tavern style" with a crispy bottom, a chewy layer of dough over it, and nice herb flavored sauce. Mmmmm. And by the way they do put the toppings on top.

There's also stuffed pizza which does have sauce on top but the crust is more like a standard pizza. I do love a stuffed spinach pizza.

The thing is that most Chicagoans don't eat deep dish pizza regularly. For most of us it's a once in a while thing. 90% of the time when we get a pizza it's the thin crust, and maybe a few times a year we'll go out for deep dish / stuffed pizza.

My personal preference for the main Chicago styles is:

Thin crust > stuffed pizza > deep dish pizza

And I think other kinds of pizza can be great in their own way too. There are definitely pizza places that do non Chicago styles too. We have all the standard chains and places that reproduce Italian or New York style.

In general I think the Chicago style ones tend to be the best, if you're in Chicago.
