Isn't the erection of a statue itself motivation just by "feelings"?

What's the logical justification behind erecting a statue?

Because history cannot exist in the absence of a statue and when you take down a statue, you not only erase any evidence of that event happening or any way to find out about it, you go back in time and rip it out of history, destroying the space time continuum. That's what people must mean when they say moving a hastily made confederate statue put up in the 60s by white supremacists to a museum is "erasing history". It's the only way to justify the hysteria and cataclysmic predictions.

That's ridiculous. People are tearing down parts of History. They are doing because American History is full of winners. These.... I can't say anything but I'll leave it at that.

I'm not understanding what you're trying to say. Are you referencing Treaty Oak or the statues?

Treaty Oak is very much a part of our history. It is the only surviving tree of the Council Oaks. A sacred meeting places for two Native American tribes. The tree is estimated to be over 500 years old.

The statues. I know the Treaty Oaks are something sacred to you Austinities but taking down the statues is just sacrilege to me.

How are some 60-70 year old statues "sacrilege" to you

Like what

I agree that bring "feelings" into it is not a good choice.

That's what this entire movement is based on

How is that "rekt"?

You realize the entire premises of "these statues can't be torn down!" is based literally entirely on personal feelings

Why does nearly every conservative on this board lack such extreme amounts of self awareness?

Honest question for those who are in favor of actions like this:

What is the point of this? What is this trying to accomplish? Is this really what we want to use our resources on?

1.People don't want the statues up as they find statues to be reserved for figures who they want to fondly remember, enough people with power agreed and they tore it down. That's the point, history sees statues fall everyday in many different places on the world.

2.Accomplish? Destroying the remaining legacy of (in the case of confederate statues) the Confederacy, by literally removing Art that memorializes them.

3. Resources? I don't think it cost too many resources to tear down statues, especially if they are a shotty as rumors say they are.

The good news is that even with all these statues gone, there is another way. There was a thing created ages ago, called books, which store the memories of these events in them in written word! Isn't that crazy? Who knew such things existed with all these statues in the way?

How does that make it OK to destroy art that you disagree with?

Well, at this point, it is all being removed because of the violence associated with it. You can blame the white nationalists for that, they really got the ball rolling.

White nationalists haven't really been violent for the most part, at least compared to the collective tantrum and riots that were thrown in November.

No, I wasn't here for a discussion, I was just stating a fact. You can thank the actions of the white supremacists for this situation. Any further actions will speed it up, but it is already past the tipping point.

It isn't dependent on other people that much. Everyone is allowed to have their feelings about things. Those feelings won't bring down Mnt Rushmore because it's not even close to comparable to confederate statues.

I think these people's feelings have clouded their minds from that.
