Idk I go out in SF a lot on weekends cause I have a bunch of friends who live up there and I live just outside of it, we try to avoid the douchey techie filled areas tho. in the days it's nice taking walks through golden gate Park.

also go to plenty of shows in either SF or oakland

Orange County. Its fantastic. Its basically one giant suburb. You access to all the big city fun (including driving to LA if you really need too) but you have space/nature to hike, and plentiful parking everywhere (aka don't have to pay like in lots of LA). Very few small roads/one way drives so its easy to navigate. Great weather. Downsides are the flip of the upside. You basically have to drive everywhere. OC is very corporate so relative to other places there are lots of chains (restaurants, retail, grocers etc...) but relatively fewer smaller/local joints. Its the type of place where its the biggest thing ever when a new chain moves in (Raising Canes being a recent example) but no one cares if a three star michelin chef opens a new eatery. People in the OC definately have the surfer vibe where there is a more relaxed approach to life. They can be reserved though so you need to be more proactive in your social life than just going to the local bar.

Antelope Valley. A desert community a bit north of LA. It's like an hour away from the beach, snowboarding, or concerts in LA so its neato.

I used to live in Palm Desert, did a year of college at College of The Desert during my year off from university (which was in Olympia, WA)

I thought it was nice, the deal is with SoCal if you stay away from the bad parts you're always going to enjoy yourself.

I stay in SF. It's fine 80% of the time. Shitty weather, extreme liberals, entitlement, and a lack of diversity kills it out here.

I fucking love Oakland though.
