Like just tried to kill every walker they came across?

Probably would have casualties, but at the same time if you're around in that world for long enough killing them becomes trivial really. One person can take down a huge number no problem really, so a group that just focused on killing thousands would probably be pretty effective even with some losses.

There IS a finite number of zombies in the world and you COULD make a dent in them eventually with enough man power and time.

It always bothered me during the prison arc that they just let the zombies congregate on the fence and didn't have someone just out there with a weapon killing them all day.

They could just make a giant hole somewhere with a loudspeaker playing music or something and have all the walkers fall right in.

None I'm aware of in the show. Most if not all focus on survival and shelter, or eliminating anything living or dead in their path. In that case the "Claimer" group Daryl encountered would be the closest thing.

No group really does any zombie sweeps.

It'd fill up eventually, but yeah. That's still effective.

Think of how many deaths you could prevent.

I feel like if I lost my family and friends and was suicidal, I'd do that. Just focus on killing as many walkers as possible. There are a lot of things you could do I bet. You'd die eventually, but fuck it.

I used to read the comics back then, and they had a part where they killed the zombies from the safe side of the fence with a knife, and then trick the remaining ones away so somebody could go out and remove the bodies so they didnt pile up as a ramp.

And that number is the remaining human population. No matter if you kill all current zombies, everyone is infected and the second they die, they turn. That means that every human being that is alive during the event can and will turn.

the walkers are already slowly rotting away due to... well being dead. why waste energy when there'll be nothing left of them in a few years anyway.

or was that plot point dropped cuz TWD is super popular now?

To be fair about that point on the show the past few seasons have taken place over the course of like idk 2-3 months. They really slowed things down to preserve the whole rotting walkers thing.

But that being said, they still kill so many people and there are always new ones being made. I think it'd be a cool gimmick for a group to have. It would have to be a group that didn't really care much about surviving though.

In the Zombie Survival Guide book the virus specifically slows decay if I recall, I don't know if that's a thing in TWD though.

How have they not completely rotted away by now

In real life, they would have all been done by week two. The gases in the body would have built up and, after two or three days, would have caused all the zombies to explode into a spray of gas and bodily fluids. That's not to mention the climate zones that would adversely effect them. In the north they would have been frozen solid and in desert climates they would have been mummified standing, especially considering most of them aren't wearing much for clothing. That's not to mention the fact that they would still need to feed to remain moving, and that means any trapped in any sort of area where humans were either wiped out or evacuated would be re-dead.

Zombism is actually the least likely type of disease. It is completely illogical and destined to fail. Their means of reproduction is also their means of eating. If they kill and turn someone, there is one more mouth to feed and one less body to feed them. Literally the only way to explain any sort of zombie outbreak is 'a wizard did it'.
