Do a lot of research first. I know some branches get to sign up with a specific contract for a specific role, like the Army. Just don't get conned into signing a contract for a role you don't want like my little brother was. He wanted to be a mental health specialist and they tricked him into signing up to be a cavalry scout, basically infantry that do patrols with vehicles and stuff. Totally not what he wanted.

not sure if serious topic but here goes

if you're still young, yes absolutely it's worth it to go, pick some sham EOS and get your GI benefits goddammit

but whoever told you pay is high needs to shut up lmfao
you get paid probably 25% less than your private sector counterparts on average (ass pull number btw)

but your base pay is not your only benefit (as the army is quick to remind you)
consider free legal, medical, dental, vision benefits
duty free shopping on base (class six baby)
potential overseas duty (Which bring their own perks such as LQA if you're command sponsored)
cheap food at the dfac
free housing

source: i'm not a soldier but my brothers are, my father was, and I grew up on a military base in Korea wanting to be a soldier

It is good experience with good benefits. The pay is "low" but there are other factors that make it better. Your housing is covered. Your food is covered. Your education is covered by the gi bill and you get up to 4500 a year while active duty for schooling. I joined because I did not really have a career path in mind so college right out of high school would have just been money spent on no real idea.

It's not always the best and you have to look at different branches. Air Force has the best life style IMO but is the least military of it. Take the asvab and see your job options.

I remember in basic one of the guys in my platoon also had a Ranger contract. He thought that he was going to go to a Park Ranger school. Boy was he wrong.

That wasn't his problem. He was a pretty hardcore pacifist and when he got to his infantry unit refused to fire any weapons. He got kicked out eventually.

Why do you bump if you don't even answer my question are you smart enough to get a full scholarship to a regular college and capable of working at the same time? I mean its a pretty important factor.

Edit: Don't bother actually I think I know the answer now.

Also remember that a lot of people signed up for reserves and national guard and shit like that right before 9/11 thinking they'd get all these benefits and it would be super unlikely they would ever be put in harm's way. People who didn't expect to go to war.

... Multiples tours in Iraq and Afghanistan later, they hopefully made it out alive and not too messed up
