In line with the developer's history of bizarre video game premises, The Good Life is set in the fictional English town of Rainy Woods, a place where "all the town's residents turn into cats" during the night. According to the announcement, the RPG stars Naomi, a New York photographer in massive debt trying to uncover the town's secrets, who also becomes a cat at night.

In addition to its narrative purpose, the transition from human to cat will also affect gameplay, "as certain secret paths, rooftops, and attics can only be accessed by cats."

"This game will inherit the spirit of Deadly Premonition, my most representative work, but it will also feature a brand new style of gameplay," said Swery. "It's a mystery game based on the framework of a 'daily life RPG.' I'm positive that the happiest town in the world and the most bizarre townspeople in the world will capture your heart and pull you deep into their world."
