What you said reminds me of something from the novel Superfudge. Specifically the chapter called Santa Who.

Why? I assume they clubbed together to buy a gift. I just think the idea of having friends in the first place is a nice one. Although I will admit I'd feel guilty and because of that I'd feel that I'd need to buy them something expensive on their Birthdays.

It is amount effort between 2 friends. I feel bad because they wasted all that money on me.I also feel bad because I have to pay them back.

Gotta a couple Sheldons here, like giving a gift is a contract that you have to return something of equal value.

Stop feeling that way. It is dumb.

You can choose to feel good or feel bad about life. Choose to feel good about the fact that you have good friends.

Your feelings are weird, no one gives you a gift trying to make you feel guilty, this is all on your weird mindset.

Perhaps. That doesn't stop me feeling guilty though. Still I do understand people buy gifts for others to make themselves feel good and hopefully the person they are giving it to.

Still out of curiosity you wouldn't mind if you bought someone something expensive on their Birthday and they didn't buy you anything at all on your own?

Ah yes, the ol "People only do things for others to make themselves feel good" mindset, sad.

I don't mind, that's kinda selfish to be annoyed someone didn't give you something expensive back. If you're giving someone something big then it must be a good reason, either you really care for them or felt they could really need it, and in those circumstances you don't care if you didn't get anything back.

Well most folk are selfish.

A little selfishness is okay as you got to take care of yourself, but doesn't change the fact that people can give gifts without expecting something in return.

How so? Sure people do nice things to make others feel good in their own mind but they generally get some enjoyment out of doing so so it's not a selfless act.

I guess I'll start accepting gifts then and give nothing back to people being as that's apparently what normal people do. Thanks!

Go for it, you're not obligated, I've given and received gifts from many people without it being reciprocated, sometimes you give gifts because it's nice :)
