Our newest little one decided to come into the world last night.

ADVJcsw

Judah means "praised" and Andon means "invaluable, priceless, inestimable worth".

He was born peacefully at home in the water after just under 3 hours of active labor and 4 minutes of pushing. I caught him! My first catch lol. Our boys are in love with their newest little brother.

Our 4 year old stayed awake and joined us right after he was born. He loved it. He especially loved learning about the placenta and such. Dude is so curious.

Everyone is healthy and happy. Just going to spend the next week and a bit resting and relaxing around the house.

We had a homebirth with our third, by far the best way to do it when mom and baby are fit and healthy. Congrats, bud.

With global warming, potential war on the horizon and the minimum wages lowering as the cost of living rises I'm inclined to say having kids isn't the best idea. At least that's what some edgy CE poster might say.

I think it's neat that you have little clones of you running around. Make an army. Win at family fair games. Do it. :3

Lol no, it's dumb and it will always be dumb. I see too many straight up dead babies, ischemic encephalopathic babies, septic babies, severely anemic babies, etc, etc list goes on because Yahoos such as yourself believe that we should pretend it's 1600 again and have a natural home birth. You don't know what you're doing and It's all "natural" fun and games until shit goes wrong and the rest of your life is fucked because your baby /wife died, suffered severe neurological damage, infection, etc. It happens fairly regularly, and watching the parents die on the inside because their loved one died/suffered preventable disease is sickening . And before you even bring up midwives, they're not doctors and they can't handle anything when shit hits the fan. What were you gonna do if your baby had a shoulder dystocia and you can't get it out and you're stuck at home? Are you going to perform the emergency cesarean section before the baby decompensates and experiences neurological damage? Do you even know how to resuscitate a baby? Playing with fire.

Glad your kid is healthy (as far as you know), may the odds forever be in your favor

What's weird? We try to normalize things like that as much as possible. The more he understands, the less he fears when he gets older. There is this huge fear of pregnancy, labour and delivery, particularly in North America, and a lot of that comes from a lack of understanding and preparation. Besides, it's pretty awesome my wife can grow an extra (super-)organ for each pregnancy that brings life and nourishment to the baby. A lot of people don't even understand what a placenta is or does.

Our second son was 10lbs 5oz. Again, no tearing, no stitches. One of the benefits of water birthing.

We had two midwives and a midwife student present. Water birthing is perfectly safe, the baby can breathe underwater as long as the umbilical has not been exposed to air yet. Once that happens, it stops supplying oxygen to the baby.

As far as benefits, off the top of my head it makes for a smoother transition for the baby (as they've been in amniotic fluid during their time in the womb), which results in generally a calmer baby when they're born. Since they continue to get oxygen from the umbilical while in the water, it's not such a big deal if the cord is around their neck. Also, the water acts as a counter-pressure to help the mother not tear during pushing. Like I said, my wife who's 5'4 was able to push a 10lb 5oz and a 9lb 1oz baby out without tearing at all via water birthing.

Home birthing is generally safe as most births don't actually require much in the way of medical interventions. Births at the hospital tend to go that way route though since stuff like oxytocin and epidurals are pushed onto the mothers by hospital staff. If there was any issue, we have a hospital ten minutes down the road with a good NICU.

9lbs...RIP vagina

Lol it's pretty amazing what the vagina can do. 9lbs wasn't even our largest, our second was over 10. Give it 5 or 6 weeks to heal (fortunately my wife's did not get mangled since we opted for a natural water birth) and it's as good as new.

Although if you are speaking from experience in the U.S., the U.S. does have an abnormally high rate of mortality for birthing mothers for a supposed first world nation. I'm not in the U.S. however. I can't recall but I'll have to look up the statistics.
