Obviously from a far away enough distance or on television, you'll be safe.

Absolutely not. Atomic tests are horrible on the planet, and even best case scenario for one fired in a war(say, North Korea accidentally nukes itself), that could still kill hundreds of thousands of innocent people who did nothing wrong beyond being born in North Korea.

Although, I would like to see a controlled implosion of a nuclear powered satellite, like the one we sent into Jupiter.

I didn't say that, just meant seeing the explosion, like the tests they used to do back in the day.

Undoubtedly. It also rendered an entire island uninhabitable forever, or close enough to it that it doesn't make a difference to humans. If there was a way I could see a nuke go off without the radioactive fallout and nobody dying? Sign me up.

That isn't the universe we live in, though.

Edit: Nope, I was wrong. Apparently Bikini Atoll is livable now. Maybe I was thinking of the frozen forest? Not sure.

Not really but if it happens (nuclear war), it would be a little reassuring that our species is basically unsalvageable from a social and political stand point. The finality, the closure, the absolute knowing that we as a collective society are so flawed that we allowed the most unthinkable, most heinous, most terrible of crimes to happen would at least free me of giving any modicums of shit about any of it.
All of our philosophy, our laws, our principles, all for nothing, if our flaws are able to win out, then the truth is we deserved it and nature is doing what nature does.

Same here.

I believe its our cynical policy that drove the behaviors we see today. We regulated nuclear power out of fear and never really stopped. Think about it. We were scared of things likely to happen with nuclear power and failed in diplomacy. We pushed countries towards strict policy to ensure we dont have another mass destruction. You can only push so far until others push back tired of all the shit. They got nothing left to lose. All that fear was brought to smaller less developed countries. What if they felt oppressed. Thats whats we hear but dont listen. Blames America for its problems as the luxury of nuclear power was there but out of their grasps. Again, nobody listens as theyll figure it out on their own. Well they did figure it out. And now all attention is there. The status quo made rich countries richer while others were stagnant in development. They had nothing to lose. They bring the fight to our homes decades later. The fear finally caught up to us. Now nuclear weapons exist in north korea despite our best efforts. And now we in a war of words pushing one another until the other backs off.

The world depended on us to regulate. We did everything we could properly, noncombat measures and still find ourselves in escalation for years right. Every year it seems theres something new. NK targets Seoul first. Decades later Japan. Today its Guam and the westcoast. WTF... its like the fear we had back in the 70s returned decades later tenfold. Whod imagine that on 2017 we would be escalate the North korea situation via social media
