Canada's Supreme Court has declared that most sex acts between people and animals are legal, as long as no penetration is involved, in a controversial bestiality ruling that has been slammed by animal rights groups.

I'd say that's not most sex acts.

Without reading the link, is this the one where the court ruled laws that were thought to have covered certain acts ended up not doing so?

Because in that case, there's a difference between legalizing something and not finding it to have been criminal.

It's always the same people who misrepresent what this case actually was, I find.

It's a matter of a law not going beyond the scope of its writing. Let's say a place only had a law against murder, as in the taking of someone else's life, and that's all the law was limited to. If you try to convict someone who attempted to murder someone under that law, then that would be going beyond what is written. If you want to criminalize attempted murder in addition to murder, then put that in a separate law or expand the scope of the original one.

The most important thing in a law-governed society is that everything is clear so that people can't be tried and convicted for something that wasn't written to be illegal.

There's a Canadian best seller called "Bear". Its a romance novel about a woman and an actual bear. In one of the chapters she drunkenly gropes it's "asymmetric" privates.

I haven't read it (though I am curious enough to if given the book), but there is a post about it on imgur. I can't link it here without getting modded. The cover has a bear and a woman on it with her breast showing.
