The movie goes into a certain direction that made the movie into a predictable and boring romance film. If they switched certain scenes around, it would've improved the overall experience but then it would've taken a "cliched" route. So I guess I can't win with this movie lol.

Just finished watching it. I enjoyed it, it's basically a typical romance film set in space with some tension/peril towards the end to try to make things more interesting. I think if you go into the movie knowing it's really just a romance film with a space twist it's okay.

It was okay, but would've been a million times better if it was from her perspective rather than his. Start the film when she wakes up and then unravel from there.

Come to think of it that would be amazing. That'd have been a great twist when it comes to her revelation.

Absolutely. Knowing what we know makes the whole 'honeymoon' phase of the movie really frustrating to sit through because we know that whole romance is a lie born from the protagonist's selfishness and desperation, and that it's going to come crashing down. We never experience the good side of things. This movie fails as a romance (pretty white people romcom, in space), but would likely have excelled as a horror/suspense. I think the protagonist actually becomes even more likable in this genre lens, especially if we're watching him lose his mind through the eyes of another person whose been hurt by his craziness. Say she starts watching surveillance footage and sees him over years of complete isolation begin to breakdown. In the moment we watched it, we would be forced to feel the same thing she's feeling. Our conflicting betrayal and sympathy, is her conflicting emotions. Oh well.

The Lawrence Fishburne cameo is hilariously mishandled and he shouldn't have made it out of editing. I'm also cutting the malfunctioning storyline, because it's not very interesting and they spend very little time developing it or trying to engage the audience with it intellectually. It's too bad because the visual work in the pool scene is gorgeous, but it's not serving anything here. The subtle nods to corporate arrogance/carelessness need to go too, or we need more or them and we need people to acknowledge this. From what we see of the scant details concerning these journeys, that these flying coffins are even legal defies reason. Either that carelessness needs to be explicitly tackled by the plot (maybe there is no corporate oversight anymore and people have grown accustomed to entrusting their lives to shitty service) or we need to clean up these plot holes.

Finally, the ending is utter shit. Voiceover monologues are utter hackery, and the vapid tone of this one in particular is at odds with the whole movie and might have even been written before the rest of the plot was conceived.

So cool concept. Wrong genre. Execution severely lacking in imagination. Buh-bye.

Well put. For me, it was an example of an okay movie that was frustrating as an insanely better version of itself was immediately obvious before the movie was even finished.
