It wasn't even that they nationalized it. That would imply that it's still there. They literally bought up huge chunks of their economy and then shut it down.

they nationalized it under the pretense of helping the poor and keeping the means of production in public hands. then it gradually collapsed since that is a poor model for a society to thrive in
