Depending on the situation, that is an appropriate response. Like if you are telling them something that doesn't seem to make much sense, it is better if the employee questions it.

In my case it was a dude literally needing a detailed explanation to what his job was every time he was asked to do it basically.

I'd be more understanding in that situation, of course. I can identify when we're going out of our usual MO and we'd need to explain

But it was a simple and direct order
I coordinate a driver service operation, and I asked him (quite nicely) to relocate to a different spot for me, because another driver had become unavailable (but he doesn't have to know this and it's not part of his job to know)
This is not out of the blue and it's not uncommon for us to move people around

"Why"

I'm still fuming

Ok, yeah. Sounds like the employee is still doing their standard job duties, just in a different location.

Fucking hate management. People questioning you over the simplest requests. Been doing it two months and it would be nice for people just to fucking do what is told of them without questioning it. Problem is I try and be accommodating and making sure everything is "fair" and if someone does have a question I'd rather answer the why and how because if I were in their position I'd appreciate it as well but not every damn request.

You're proof that CEmen make terrible managers. Someone asks you a question and you want to beat the employee as a response.

I had a boss who was like the stereotypical CEman.

He was very good at his job except when it came to actually interacting with anyone. Clients, his subordinates, his bosses. He was such a colossal smug douche that thought he was smarter than everyone when all he was really good at was his specific job.

He ended up getting butthurt that they wouldn't promote him to a job that required him to deal with people on a daily basis and just up and quit one day. It was pretty funny cause he threw an awkward tantrum too.

You're blowing things up from my OP

"Someone asks you a question" first of all it wasn't a question, it was giving me lip

"you want to beat the employee" second of all no i said I came close to wanting to hit them, not that i wanted to "beat them"

This says everything I need to know about you.

1. You take your job way too seriously.
2. You think your job is more important than it is
3. You're a douche

When he asks "why?" he could simply be wondering what happened to necessitate the change out of pure curiosity. The grown up response is "another driver isn't available" and you either tell him why he isn't available or say you can't tell him why.

Not get all butthurt, take it as a slight to your ego, and then get on Gamefaqs to cry about it.

Shit like this is why you're never going to move past a basic supervisor position.

Oh yeah, never could be that an employee has a problem with respect and following orders in general

And it's hollow saying this now, after these accusations have been levied against me! but I normally am very relaxed at work, the drivers all like me and generally I don't have a problem like this from any of the other drivers.

He's a persistent problem employee. He's had several complaints against him by a few female employees. It was really a misunderstanding (actual cultural differences) and we mediated... but the dude is still weird.

He will try and fight perfectly normal and common commands. Like a manchild "why can't i stay here instead" etc

I'm okay with asking questions normally, and I'm happy to answer, but just at like 6:15 AM after having otten up 3 hours prior

I really wasn't in the mood I guess ps i feel better now

It depends entirely on his tone of voice.

If someone under me generally wanted to know why something was being done there's nothing wrong with that, and if it was for a safety concern it's definitely cool because people get killed every year in our line of work. If it was a smartass response because they don't want to do it, then I feel for you because I unleash hell on guys when they get lippy like that and I usually make sure to make their job suck more when I get those types of people.
