As a gamer, I'm thankful for it, but it just seems like a very miserable career, especially if you work for a big publisher. Very long hours, constant deadlines, rushed development, and the possibility that your job may be gone when the project's all done has got to make a pretty high-stress environment.

What about old timey garbage collectors? Back in the day when they had two guys hanging on the back of the garbage truck and they got off at each house to pick up the garbage cans and empty them. Now they have them newfangled trucks with the mechanical arm that picks up the can.

So like the aforementioned proctology, as well as gynecology, but also non-gross specialties like dentistry. I don't know how the decision process works for that kind of thing. Is it the nature of the work and the workload? Is it some sort of fascination with that part of the body? Are they just more knowledgeable with one area over another so they went with that instead?

I agree. Game development sounds like a nightmare. Unless you're getting six figures a year for each project. Even then, you would want to ration out your earnings as if you were earning 50k/year so that you could look for work the following year after the game was done and you got let go.

Depends. Some of them are because of money or lifestyle. Gastroenterology and cardiology do cool procedures and make more, than say endocrinology, so they're more competitive to get into.

Dermatology also does a lot of "mini" procedures (shaving moles off and stuff), so they get paid a ridiculous amount, and the nature of the work amounts to comfortable hours and rarely any emergencies to disrupt time off (so its incredibly competitive).

Things like ophthalmology and urology is basically a surgeon with better hours/pay, and they use cool technology on a daily basis.

Combination of lifestyle and pay usually dictates the types of board scores you need to be competitive for a specialty, so people choose based on what they're competitive for and the type of work they want to do more (thinking versus doing something with your hands).

Ultimately, though, I have more respect for people that do these jobs than people who simply don't work and live off welfare, or people who are long time unemployed because they can't get the level of job they think they are entitled to and won't consider "lesser" work.

I sometimes wonder why I got into firefighting. We automatically take years off of our life due to either dying on the job or getting cancer, it's very stressful, we're underpaid, there's "never any money" for basic equipment like tools amd new rigs, and the city/mayor/etc hates us because unlike the cops, we don't generate money.

We used to get our trash picked up like once every three weeks because we had a normal trashcan instead of a roboarm one, and frankly I have no idea how that happened since it wad the case ever since we moved in.

I actually considered calling the company and complaining, asking if they skipped us because we were the only black family on the street, but they actually ended up replacing our garbage can before I decided to actually do it.

Lol at listing army. They pay for your healthcare,dental, housing, food and college education in addition to a paycheck. Most people have to pay for all of that with their 1500 a month paycheck from a retail job
