"Some shopping."

"More shopping?" she says.

"Yes, some more shopping," you say. "Nothing too much, we can just look around to start."

You drive on HI-83, or Kamehameha Highway, and the first part of commerce you see is a car dealership. Not needed, you move on and see a shopping center, but it doesn't look like there's much of interest in there either.

"At least we have places we can get lunch," you say as you spot both a McDonald's and a Burger King.

You also come upon the Windward Mall, that looks to have a lot of things in it. You pull in to an open parking spot and dismount.

"Let's see what's in here," you say to Raven, "and if there's nothing of interest, we'll leave."

Raven walks with you inside the mall and you take a quick look at the directory.

"Plenty of good places to eat later," you say. "A few clothing stores. Macy's, Sears, Hot Topic."

"Ugh..." Raven says.

"I know," you say. "So strange that they sell things I like, but I just can't force myself to go in."

"Yeah, me, too," she says.

"Oh, Victoria Secret Pink," you say.

Raven smacks you in the arm.

"No, it's not like that," you say. "Victoria Secret Pink has normal clothes."

"How do you know that?"

"I have two sisters, remember? They get merchandise from there constantly."

"But, by 'pink', a lot of their clothes will be... pink."

"No, there are plenty of items in grey, black or white, which are among what my sisters also have. Besides, I know for a fact you'd look cute in pink after meeting your joyful side."

"It's not like she wears pink by choice," she says. "Joy could've easily been yellow or orange, or something that's not pink."

"But, as she is your perception of happiness, she's pink," you say.

Raven grumbles, because she knows you're right.

Then again, I'm frazzled from Koroks, illnesses, and family...squabbles.

"Well, I want to buy you something from somewhere," you say. "How about Macy's? They'll have something nice."

"I guess," she shrugs.

"Then it should be... this way."

You take her hand and you two walk together down the way.

"So what were you planning on buying me?" she asks.

"Well, we probably should get you things that are casual but for colder weather," you say. "Summer is almost over and London will be very cool, maybe even cold. We should get you things like sweatpants, jackets--hooded, if you like--sweaters, things of that nature."

"Will they even have those?" she asks. "This is Hawaii, in the Summer."

"... Good point. Well, surely sweatpants and jackets will be fine."

As you round the corner, you pass by Hot Topic. You avert your eyes so as not to be tempted. But then you feel Raven stop in place suddenly, eyes set on something in the front window displays.

"Pet Sematary, Freddy's Revenge," she says as you look for yourself. "Friday the 13th, and one that's like a skull with all these little stars...!"

"Raven, remember," you say. "We don't like Hot Topic...!"

"I know...!" she says with a conflicted groan. "But still...!"

After a tense moment of her scrunching her face, Raven tears herself away from the pop culture shirts that also play on her gothic interests to follow you the rest of the way to Macy's.

You two enter and find your way to the Women's Pants section and see they do have a selection of sweatpants.

"Yes, these should do fine," you say as you spot various Nike brand sweats. "These relaxed fit ones, both in blue and black. This cuffed one in blue, in case you were to jog somewhere."

"You sure know what looks good on me," Raven smirks as she puts them to herself.

Moving on from sweatpants, you go to coats and jackets to see what they have in the way of hooded variety.

"Oooh, I like this one," she says. "A nice blue, straight and simple, with a hood. And it's even called London Fog."

"Yes, a very nice choice," you say as she drapes it on her shoulders. "But we will need one that better handles rain."

"But, those all look... puffy," she says as you go to the coats.

"Well, yes," you say, "they're puffer coats. Three lengths, all in a nice shade of blue that would definitely work."

You and Raven look them over, and how their lengths would compare with hers. In the end, you choose the

Shortest.

"Oh look, it's even on sale," you say as you look at the tag.

"So, what? It's down from 150 to 100?"

"Yes, actually," you say. "Come along, we'll get these checked out."

"Aren't you going to buy anything?" she asks.

"I already have plenty of regular clothing," you say. "You are the one with a closet full of cloaks and leotards."

"True..."

You two head to the registers near the front and set the sweatpants and coats on the counter. The cashier scans them all, and totals them up for you as you already take out your credit card.

"That'll be $363," the cashier says.

You hand over your card, they swipe it, the receipt prints out and you take it and card to put away in your wallet.

"Thank you for shopping at Macy's," the cashier smiles.

"You're welcome," you say as you and Raven take the bags and leave.

"Where will we be keeping these while we're away from our hotel?" Raven asks.

"My knapsack, of course."

"Oh, true."

You two walk back the way you came, you again approach the horrid Hot Topic. But now you spot something new in the windows.

"Aww..." you say. "They have pro-wrestling tees?"

"Rorek, no," she says. "You have to fight it."

"But they look so cool...!" you say. "Especially with the skull and the bandana."

"Yeah, but... We've already spent so much!"

"No my card has way more on it than that," you say.

Raven facepalms, and you realize she was giving you an out...

"No, you're right," you say. "We don't need to do any more shopping right now. Let's go and..."

"Swim at the beach."

Raven nods and you two retreat from the Hot Topic to return to the parking lot. You put Raven's new clothes in the knapsack and ride out towards the coast, which is North of the city.

But when you arrive, you see nothing but piers and boats.

"Um, excuse me," you ask a local preparing his boat for departure. "Is there no beach in Kaneohe?"

"No, this is all for fishing, cous'," the man says. "Don't worry, just go to the next town over in Kailua, they got plenty of beach."

"Thank you," you say.

"No problem, cous'," he says as you back out and turn around.

You drive off back the way you came, then pull over to check your map.

"Okay, to get to Kailua from here," you say while glancing at street signs, "we've made it back to Kamehameha, so we need to go... to Kaneohe Bay Drive..."

You trace your finger along that long main road.

"It becomes Mokapu Saddle Road... crosses over Interstate H3... and goes right into Kailua! Easy."

You head out and ride through town. You admire the Hawaiin suburbs as you pass by house after house, block after block and neighborhood after neighborhood.

"Can I confess something?" Raven asks.

"Go ahead," you say.

"There was a time, when I was a kid, I wondered what it was like to live outside of Azarath. And when I made my way to this world, and I saw my first normal city, with suburbs like this, I wondered what life would've been like if my mom and I lived a normal life. But, I wouldn't even know what my human father would be like in that scenario. After watching quite a bit of television, I ended up imagining Trigon in slacks and a sweater vest..."

"Sounds like a really twisted sitcom," you chuckle. "Could you imagine? Something like out of the 1980's or even 90's, complete with an opening theme song and credit sequence."

Raven chuckles.

"I wonder if that'd be better or worse than how he made the world a living Hell," she says.

"Well, I'd think anything is better than that," you say. "Title it 'The Roths', or maybe 'Meet the Roths'."

"You remembered my mom's last name?"

"Of course I did," you say. "Why wouldn't I remember that?"

Raven blushes before giving you a hug.

You cruise down the highway and arrive in Kailua. Mokapu Saddle Road becomes Mokapu Boulevard, so you slow down and pull over to double check the map.

"From here," Raven says as she points out the nearby stream both on the map and in reality, "we can take North Kalaheo to get across, and then just turn left to reach the beach."

You put the map away, drive on and find the turn onto Kalaheo. You turn right and follow it as it curves along a Northwest-Southeast bend.

"A lot of these houses are also suburban," you say. "We should probably go until there aren't that many, otherwise we'll basically be swimming in someone's backyard."

You go all the way down until North Kalaheo becomes South Kalaheo, pass by a charming little diner called the Kalapawai Market, and enter Lihiwai Road to pass by "Buzz's Steakhouse." Those might make nice places to eat lunch, too.

You keep going, turning with the road as the coast moves further away. You turn onto Mokulua and arrive at Lanikai Beach. It's somewhat busy for a Wednesday, plenty of surfers--both men and women--going out with their boards and coming back in on small waves.

You find a spot to park Shadowfax, and rummage in your knapsacks for your swim trunks, but instead pull out Raven's swimsuit. You shyly hand that over and then find your trunks on the second go.

"Umm... Where are we supposed to change?" Raven asks as she looks around.

You also look around, and see nothing in the way of tents, public bathrooms, or even little shower stalls.

"This might be a problem," you say. "Um... Would your magical barriers be able to obsure us from others?"

Raven puts one between the two of you, and you can see her as more an outline than actually in front of your eyes.

"You tell me," she says.

"So, no. Well, this is as good a time as any to train your Illusion magic."

"So, something to make us look invisible to others?"

"No, that's too high a level, even for me," you say. "I was thinking more in the way of making others think we're bushes or trees."

"Oh, okay," she says. "So, just visualization and projection, right?"

"Right," you say. "Imagine whatever plant you want. A palm tree might be best, there are plenty of them here. Keep in mind the area of effect as well, broad enough that it covers both of us but not so broad that it might distort the image or the perception of it."

Raven uses her eyes to trace a circle around the two of you in her mind.

"Got it," she says.

She then closes her eyes and you sense her magic. Her eyes open and flash with light, then return to normal.

"Is that good?" she asks.

"I don't know. I'm clearly inside the range, because I see you, not a tree."

"Well," she says, "if someone sees us getting changed, then we know it didn't work."

She then turns around as she unbuttons her pants. She then looks at you over her shoulder.

"Turn around," she says.

"Raven, I've seen you without your pants. Just last night, in fact."

"But to get into the swimsuit, I have to get naked," she says as she smacks you. "And you have to do the same to get into your trunks. Getting naked."

She blushes again then turns back around. You honor her request and turn around as you start changing clothes.

You stay focused on yourself, slipping off your shirt and suspending it in air with magic while you take off your shoes and pull off your socks. You add those to the levitating clothing while you slip your trousers and underwear off. You quickly slip into your trunks and grab your clothes out of the air.

"Raven, are you decent?" you ask.

"Just a moment," she says.

You look down at your feet as you wait, and watch your toes dig into the soft sand.

"Okay," she says.

You turn around, she has her clothes bundled up like you do yours.

"Okay," you say. "Go ahead and undo the illusion, then we can get to water."

Raven nods, closes her eyes, and they flash again when she reopens them. You look around, no one else is near, so they shouldn't have seen a tree disappear and you two suddenly appear. You go to Shadowfax, put your street clothes in the knapsack, and head down the path to the coast.

As the newcomers, others at the beach take notice of you. And though some look away after a moment, others look a little longer. You're not sure if it's your stark white hair, Raven's figure, or the fact both of you have skin gray like storm clouds.

You shrug off the attention and head for water not occupied by the surfer traffic. You end up going further down the beach, to the Southeast, holding hands with Raven the whole way.

"This should be far enough," you say.

You lead Raven to the water as it laps up to the shore. You two let the waves wash over your feet, then walk in kicking and splashing before getting in to swim. You and Raven head into shoulder deep waters and then float on the waves.

"Can I confess something else?" Raven asks.

"Certainly," you say.

"When we first met," she says, "but after I calmed down from my initial surprise and suspicion, so... About the time you shared your family stories with me, then. Um, well, it was still a weird experience for me at the time. I remember you said that, from what your grandmother has told you, you have the same voice as your grandfather, another of the Roreks throughout time."

"That's right," you say.

"Well, Malchior apparently got the voice right, because he sounded like you do, when he talked from the book and his paper body."

"Oh. You didn't mention that before."

"I know, but that's part of what I'm getting at. It was weird for me to look at you, a real human, who was so much like the Rorek in the book in appearance, but had the voice of... him."

A strange feeling of guilt and uncertainty comes through you.

"But," she says, "that was part of why I really enjoyed our little storytime about your family. I was slowly able to replace the association of that voice with Malchior, with the truth. The real Wizard of Null, his family, his legacy, and you."

"No wonder you were so eager to hear them," you say.

"And why I like looking into your eyes so much," she smiles as she floats closer. "They're in real living color, instead of flat black-and-white ink."

"Oh?" you say as you come in closer to her.

"And because he was paper, he didn't have this soft skin or thick hair," she says as she brings her hands up.

She touches both hands to your cheeks, the water cool on your face.

"Not to mention," she says. "You have lips."

She kisses your lips, wrapping her arms around you.

"So the paper body Malchior had didn't have a mouth?" you ask.

"No," she says with a chuckle. "He was more like a mummy, with paper wrapped around what I'd imagine Rorek the First's body looked like. It wasn't too far off from how you look. But, he doesn't matter, he's trapped in another dimension right now. Part of the final battle with the Brotherhood of Evil."

"Right," you nod. "In which case, let's move on from talking about him, and on to making more fun memories for ourselves."

Raven giggles as you wrap your arms around her waist, but then you both stop treading water and sink a little, so you both let go of each other to use your arms again. You two chuckle again and swim back to some shallower waters. You stand up where it is only waist high and walk up behind Raven.

You wrap and arm around her shoulders and pat her head with the other hand while resting your chin on her head. However, Raven makes a sort of sound between "Uh" and "Ah" as she tenses and pulls away.

"Raven?" you say.

"Sorry!" she says quickly and apologetically. "Not to bring up Malchior again so soon, but... H-He would hold me like that sometimes..."

"Oh..."

That strange feeling of uncertainty and guilt comes up again.

"Though," she says, "I guess, since you're flesh and bone... It won't feel the same way..."

She turns back around and looks over her shoulder. You step closer and put your arms back around her.

"How's this?" you say as you caress a shoulder.

"Better," she says with a slight sound of amusement. "I like this feeling of my bare back against your bare chest."

"Thank you," you smirk.

You give her a kiss on the top of her head while you wrap your other arm around her shoulders.

"I like that you're short," you chuckle. "I can just surround you as we cuddle."

"I'm not short, you're just tall," she chuckles as she looks up at you.

"Well, either way, I enjoy this height difference," you say before kissing her on the cheek.

"Me, too," she says as she kisses back.

With her looking up--and perhaps upside-down--at you, you kiss her on the lips, and it completely changes the dynamic, in a good way. As the kiss ends, Raven leans into you and you hold her up. She bites her lower lip, clearly having enjoyed that.

"You hungry?" you ask.

"Mmm, yes-- Oh wait, for food? Um, yeah, I can eat."

"Let's try Kalapawai Market," you say. "I'm sure they have something nice there."

"Do we have to get dressed already?" she asks. "We practically just got in these."

"Well we can walk there," you say. "It's not that far."

"I guess so," she shrugs.

You two walk back towards the path and to Shadowfax and the knapsack. You pull out your sandals and then Raven's.

"Wait, you brought the flats?"

"Yeah," she says curtly. "I'm not walking around in those high heel ones in public. I'll look like some weird fusion of goth and bimbo."

You want to counter but even you have to admit, those heels combined with this swimsuit, Raven would land somewhere between a woman you'd see in a goth strip club or goth rap/hip-hop video. You also have to admit you'd be showering her in single denomination bills...

You also take out your sunglasses and put those on, you and Raven continue on to the street.

"Why're you undoing the kickstand?" she asks.

"Well, I can't just leave Shadowfax here. We can just walk him with us."

You get Shadowfax moving, careful of your bare toes and shins. You get Shadowfax on the street and walk with him near the curb while Raven stays safe on the sidewalk.

You two walk through the suburbs and see others walking back and forth also in more or less the same clothing as either of you. Men in board shorts, some with shirts on and others without, while some women have at least part of a swimsuit showing. You still get eyes watching you, but again that's likely because of your gray complexion. Or Shadowfax.

You walk a bit, as Kalapawai Market is admittedly far from Lanikai Beach. You pass by Buzz's again, and take note of the parking lots around on this side of the street.

"Oh wait," Raven says. "This is a public beach, too."

"Oh? Why didn't I notice that before? I'll park Shadowfax here, it'll be much closer."

You two cross Lihiwai Road that goes over the river and you push Shadowfax to a spot in the Kailua Beach Park's lot. You then continue with Raven around the bend and see Kalapawai Market at the end of the block.

You arrive through the door and see the person at the front counter.

"Hey, bruhda," he says. "You should put a shirt on, and not just because you'll get sunburnt."

Raven stifles her laughter.

"And... And what about me?" she asks.

"Nah you fine, he just needs a shirt."

"I'll be right back," you say to Raven.

You grumble all the way back to Shadowfax, pull out a shirt, and head back as you put it on. You return to Kalapawai Market, see Raven already seated with menus.

"I already ordered us some coffee," she says, "just a couple cups of regular black coffee."

"No soda?"

"Kalapawai is known for their coffee," Raven whispers. "I felt it'd be rude if we didn't have some."

"Fair enough," you whisper back; then in regular voice while reading your menu, "What are you feeling for lunch? I like the sound of the..."

"Kalapawai Club sandwich. Choice of bread stacked with either ham or turkey, with bacon, lettuce, tomato, Swiss cheese, mustard and mayonnaise."

"Sounds nice," she says, "but I think I'll have the French Dip."

"Mmm, a good choice, as well."

A waiter walks up and serves your table two cups of coffee.

"So you ready to order?" he asks.

"Yes," you say. "I'll have the Kalapawai Club. White bread, ham, and everything else."

"Alright," he says. "And you, miss?"

"I'll have a French Dip."

"Okay," he says. "I'll be back with those when they're ready."

The waiter takes your menu and walks to the kitchen, you and Raven quietly sip coffee.

"This really is good," you say.

"Yeah," she says.

The lunch rush seems to begin, or the equivalent of it for this establishment, as a large group of people enters. One of the men has his shirt off, but the man at the counter doesn't say anything to him.

"Wait," you say, "I was told to put my shirt on."

"Yeah, because him and me are friends," the man says. "Plus, we're in the same kinda shape."

The shirtless man chuckles as he pats his stocky stomach.

"The restaurant is for eating, not showing off ya muscles," the man finishes before wiping down the bar.

"I wasn't showing off..." you say a little defensively.

"Well, you do have some good muscles," Raven says with a bit of a smirk.

You smirk back and sip more coffee.

A few minutes pass, and your waiter returns with two plates.

"One Kalapawai Club, one French Dip," he says.

"Thank you," you and Raven say.

"Careful with the Au Jus," he tells her, "it is hot and fresh."

She uses her fingertips to carefully place the tiny bowl of the savory dark-brown liquid beside the plate. She then picks up her sandwich, complete with melted cheese and roast beef, squeezes it together and dips it in the dip, per the sandwich's name. She takes a bite, and smiles with delight.

"It's good, yes?" you say.

She nods.

You pick up your sandwich, with ham, Swiss and the BLT, and take a bite that gets all of it at once. You even get the mellow tangy taste of the mustard and mayo together.

"Also good," you say. "Proper stacking for the sake of things not being mushy and sticking to the roof of my mouth."

"Yeah, that does get annoying," she says. "There's no mayonnaise on this, and the Au Jus soaks into the bread to soften it without making it soggy."

You two eat quietly as more customers fill the restaurant.

"Help! Someone help!" a man shouts as they come running in from the corner. "My son, he stuck by a sea urchin, and I think he's been poisoned!"

Everyone in the Kalapawai Market reacts to hearing that.

"Jimmy, check the first-aid kit for the urchin anti-venom!" the man at the counter says.

"Right away!" the other man says as he hurries into the back.

"How bad was the contact?" you ask. "A poke? A scratch?"

"No, more like, several punctures," the father says, calming down. "Maybe three, grouped together, on his leg."

"Where on his leg?"

"His thigh."

"That's no good," you say as you start heading for the door, Raven and the panicked father following. "There's a good chance one of those punctures got to the femoral artery, and that would spread the poison all the quicker through his leg, or even his heart. Even if they find an anti-venom, they might not get to the boy in time."

"So what're you going to do?" the father asks.

"Raven can get rid of the poison with Healing Magic," you say as you exit the building. "You just need to lead us to your son."

The man nods and you three jog around the North corner to go to the coast. You go across a parking lot strip and past a sign saying "Kite Surf Kailua" to see the boy on the shore, propped up in the arms of friends.

As you three approach, the father hurries up ahead to check on his boy, who is sweating profusely. The puncture wounds are clear as day as they're also bleeding rather badly. Raven stops you and turns you to look at her.

"Rorek, why am I healing him?" she asks. "You have more experience with using Healing magic."

"I have to keep my secret," you say. "You're the only one able to use magic in the open."

"But-"

"Raven, we don't have time to argue. You have to do this, and you can do this. I trust in you."

Raven reluctantly accepts as you two continue walking. The father moves aside as you and Raven kneel down on either side of the boy.

"Alright, do you remember your training?" you ask her.

"Yes," she says with a hint of annoyance. "Poison means detox and extraction, and this wound obviously needs standard Healing to close."

Raven closes her eyes to focus, hands hovering over the boy's thigh. Her aura becomes slightly greener as the magic makes contact with the wounds.

Raven's right hand rolls around, as if winding strings onto the fingers. The magic from that hand becomes like a thread, and it fishes out the toxins from within the boy's veins and arteries, as shown by the faint glow of green light inside.

The other hand stays motionless, but glows a bit brighter. The three wounds on the boy's leg glow with it in a pulsating rhythm. Raven's right hand winds faster and faster, and you see the acrid purple poison being pulled out. There is a lot of toxic substance being pulled out of the boy, but when the last bit of it is removed, Raven slings it away to then finish healing the wounds closed with her left hand. After all the glowing is done, the boy is no longer bleeding, and his face looks fuller in color than before.

"Jacob," the father says. "Jacob, are you alright?"

The boy's eyes flutter open, and he sits up on his own.

"Dad," Jacob says with a smile.

"Oh thank goodness," the father says before hugging his son.

The father then helps his son to his feet as you all stand up.

"Thank you," the father says to you. "Thank you very much."

"That was incredible," the manager from Kalapawai Market says. "You're heroes!"

"Well, I am a Teen Titan," Raven shrugs with a nervous smile.

"Your orders are on the house!" he says.

"No, I couldn't accept that," you say. "Being a hero is just what we-- er, Raven does. We should at least pay the tip. How much does our meal cost?"

"Hmm..." the manager says. "Kalapawai Club, French Dip, and two cups of coffee... That'd be $19.48."

"Then I shall give your waiter $4," you say as you take out $1 bills. "A 20 percent tip seems fair for how timely he was."

"Thank you, that's very generous," the waiter says as he steps forward to collect.

You give the man his tip, and then head back to Kalapawai Market.

"Thank you," the boy says to you as he and his father walk to the corner.

You and Raven wave as he waves, and you take Raven's hand again as the father and son cross the road.

"Great work, by the way," you say to Raven.

"Thanks," she says. "But, you could've just done that yourself."

"I told you, I couldn't do it because of my family's secret."

"But what would it have mattered to do it out here?" she counters. "I don't think anyone would know who you are out here."

"It wouldn't take anything to connect the dots," you say. "You know the father and the son are going to share this story with the mother, the grandparents, uncles, aunts, cousins, friends from work or school, and they'll all tell them that 'Raven of the Teen Titans saved a life'. If it were me, they'd say 'a man with white hair and blue eyes saved a life', and it wouldn't take much for someone to get curious and do some researching."

"That is totally overthinking it," she says with a bit of a chuckle. "You don't need to worry so much, when you've helped us fight crime and stuff for weeks."

"That's not the same."

"How is it not?" she asks.

You two return to Kalapawai Market's front door.

"Why're you arguing against you saving the day?" you say.

"Why're you arguing that you can't when you can?" she counters.

You two have no responses to the questions, so you just sit back down at your table and finish your meals.

"All done?" the waiter asks.

"Yes," you say as you use the last bit of bread to mop up some spilt mayo-mustard.

"Thank you," Raven says as the plates and empty coffee cups are collected.

"And thank you for the tip," the waiter says. "Feel free to come again for dinner after 7PM."

"We just might," you say.

You and Raven take your leave of Kalapawai Market and you head around the corner towards Kailua Beach.

"Wait, we just ate," Raven says. "We can't go swimming yet."

"Well, we can..."

yeah all I know is that the wikia credits some healing magic to her so she must've used it sparingly through the series.

"Go sightseeing. We need something to pass the time until nightfall anyway."

"So that means changing back," she says.

"Yes. I'll take care of casting the illusion this time."

"And put a palm tree in the middle of a parking lot?"

"No, we'll put one over on the side," you say as you reach Shadowfax and the knapsack.

You and Raven take out your street clothes, walk over to a patch of trees nearby, and you cast the illusion to make a matching tree appear among the rest, right where you're standing.

"Remember, no peeking," Raven says.

"Right," you say.

You turn face away from each other and strip out of your swim wear and back into street clothes, underwear and all.

"Okay," you say as you drop the illusion. "Let's ride around and see what there is to see."

You put the swim wear away, put on helmets, and pull out onto the street. You ride past Kalapawai Market and onto the main roads, taking Kailua Road headed South, and around a bend into the downtown area.

"Well, they have a Target and a Starbucks," Raven says.

"Oh, an art gallery," you say.

You pull right into the parking lot for the Island Treasures Art Gallery and walk through the door.

"It's so... colorful, in here," Raven says as she looks around.

"You should've worn your sunglasses," you tease.

You look around at the many framed pictures that line the many walls.

"These are lovely," you say as you admire the painted landscapes featuring beaches and waves. "This matching pair, the sun is rising and the sun setting, are especially well detailed."

"I'll let the artist know you liked it," a woman says as she walks over. "They did indeed design them as a matching pair, and we would love to sell them to you as such."

"Oh? What would the price be for both?"

"Buying more things...?" Raven says through the side of her mouth as she leans in towards you. "I thought this was sightseeing..."

"It's fine..." you respond in the same way.

"The two together, $90," the woman says.

"90?!" Raven hisses as she looks up at you.

"That's a discount," the woman notes. "Separately, each would've been over $60 for a total of more than $120."

"Well, I would think buying them as a pair is obvious," Raven says. "You could phrase it as a 'buy one, get one half off', but you're still getting someone to pay more."

"Relax, Raven," you say. "It's actually quite fair. I'll take those."

The woman smiles and nods as she has someone else pluck the pair from the wall.

"And I'll buy something nice for my lovely lady friend," you say. "What do you have that you think would suit her?"

"Well, we have some simple jewelry, some skin care and beauty products, or some nice locally made, handcrafted items ranging from glasses to bowls to boxes."

"Oh, I like the sound of..."

"Handcrafted items. Those definitely sound like something we'd use on a regular basis, as well."

"Right this way," the woman smiles.

She leads you around a corner, you and Raven follow, though Raven seems a bit reluctant.

"Oh look, pillows," you say. "We should get one of these, too, if for the Titans' living room."

You pick out the blue pillow with white coral patterns on it, then the red one with the little pineapples.

"These are...?" you ask the saleswoman.

"$10 each," she says. "No package deals, though, sorry."

"That's fine," you say as you tuck them both under an arm.

You continue on and the three of you arrive at the shelf unit covered with wooden items range from bowls to boxes and even other things.

"Oh, tiny decorative surfboards," you say, "and a skateboard."

"Do you skateboard?" Raven asks.

"No," you say. "But it does look nice."

"Oh, a chess set," Raven says.

"Do you play chess?" you ask.

"Sometimes. A lot of those times it's against Cyborg, and sometimes Robin. I also win a lot. How about you?"

"Yes, actually," you say. "I haven't played it in months, and the last time was against my grandfather. Did not win."

"Oh," she says. "I wonder where that puts your skill level compared to mine."

"Is that a challenge?" you smirk at her.

"Maybe," she shrugs, then smirks.

"Well, we're here, let's buy it," you say.

"But we already have chess sets at the Tower," she says.

"Yes, but this will be our chess set," you say as the saleswoman takes care of moving the board game and its pieces off the shelf. "We can bring it with us to pay whenever we're traveling, just like now."

"So these will be our road trip set," Raven smirks.

"Exactly," you say.

"If that will be all," the saleswoman says, "I can ring you up."

"Thank you," you say.

You three head to the register near the back. The saleswoman goes around to the other side, where the two paintings are waiting in nice, padded packaging. You set the two throw pillows down as the saleswoman sets the chess set down. She types on the register to get the total sum.

"That will be $170," she says.

"Wait, that means the chess set was... $60?" Raven says. "For this wood set?"

"Well, it is all handcrafted," the saleswoman says. "The board with its individual squares, inside the frame, with the little legs, and every single chess piece. See this?"

The woman holds up a random pawn from both the white and black piece sets. Instead of a traditional set, where the pieces are shapes, the pawns here are sculpted into people, as if they were actually little warriors prepared for battle.

"Exquisite detail, polished and smooth, so that they're all exactly the same," the woman explains. "The pawn, being the most common piece, is therefore the hardest to keep exactly uniform for all sixteen of them. That level of craftsmanship alone earns this set more than $50."

Raven slightly frowns, but says no more. You pay with your credit card, the chess set is carefully boxed, with the playing pieces set in separate boxes with soft packing foam cut so the pieces fit inside, and the board is slipped inside its own box. The trio of boxes are stacked together, the playing piece boxes on top of the board box, before it is all wrapped in simple wrapping paper.

The pillows are put in one big shopping bag, the pair of pictures slipped wrapped up together just like the chess set.

"Thank you," you say as you take the parcels and Raven carries the bag.

"You're welcome," the saleswoman says.

You and Raven leave Island Treasures Art Gallery and return to Shadowfax. You put all your souvenirs away in the knapsack, glancing around to make sure no one notices as you do. With everything tucked away in the Magi-Pocket, you and Raven hop back on board.

"How about we go swimming again?" you say. "It's been long enough."

"So we're going back to the beach?" she asks.

"Well, I suppose we could find a public pool instead," you say. "Let's drive around to find one."

You head out from Island Treasures' parking lot turn right off of Kailua Road and onto Kuulei Road, headed Northeast.

"Oh, a library!" she says.

"Well, we know where that is now," you say. "We can come back to that later."

"Or we could use that to figure out where the local public pool is," she says.

"Or we ask for directions," you say as you pull up to the intersection of Kuulei and Kainalu.

You wait as a vehicle on the right takes uses right of way to cross. You look as people start to cross the street now.

"Excuse me," you call to them as they either approach or pass by. "Do you know if there happens to be a public pool in town?"

"Uh, yeah..." a young man with bright red hat says. "Just go down this street, and it's part of the public park here."

"Oh. Well, thank you."

"You're welcome," he says as you make the turn.

You drive down Kainalu Drive and see the park, with man baseball diamonds and a couple different parking lots. You look to the side and see a building that has "Kailua District Swimming Pool" it.

"Ah, so it is here," you say.

You pull into the parking lot near tennis and basketball courts, find a spot, and shut Shadowfax down. You see various people, from adults to children, enjoying the pool, splashing about. You and Raven pull your swim wear from the knapsack and walk into the building.

"Welcome," the woman at the front desk says. "How may I help you?"

"Is this pool open to the public?" you ask.

"Of course," she says. "For a small price, you can spend a couple hours swimming to cool off and exercise."

"Alright," you say as you pull out your wallet. "How much?"

"Children are $2, youth is $5 and adults are $8."

"Then two youths, please," you say as you bring out a $10 bill.

"Thank you," she says. "As you can see, men's changing room is on the right, women's is on the left. Please make sure to rinse off both before and after getting in the pool."

"Will do," you say.

You turn right as Raven turns left, thereby passing by each other.

"See you out there," you say.

"You, too," Raven says.

You enter the men's room and see the bathroom stalls and lockers for clothes. You go to an open one that is also clean, and stow your street clothes in it. You find the shower heads hanging down from the ceiling and head over. You pull on a rope and it starts up the shower head, which rinses you off with cool water; not cold, or you'd be shivering, but nice and refreshingly cool water.

You find the exit to the pool and walk out. Raven isn't outside yet, so you slip into the pool and swim around, standard freestyle stroke to one end of the pool and back.

"You didn't wait for me?" Raven says as you reach the edge of the pool.

You look up as Raven crouches and slips into the water.

"Well I couldn't just loiter," you say. "I'd look rather odd doing that."

"Just teasing you," she says. "C'mon, I'll do this next lap with you."
