Seriously, though, why are people taking NK seriously this time? They are lying, like they always do. Remember how their test a few months ago ended with the missile blowing up on the launch pad? They are more likely to nuke themselves than their neighbors. They have absolutely no capable invasion force, no navy, and no modern weapons. Their army numbers are inflated with children and the elderly, some of which are armed with bayonets.

Literally the only reason they keep this shit up is because they think that China will protect them in a defensive alliance if they can convince someone else to strike pre-emptively, which is starting to look shaky as is. It's the same reason they declared The Interview a declaration of war.

only sensible outcome to the conquering of NK is having SK install a legitimate unification over the land. same culture / language would mean less outcome of counter revolts.

I imagine the United States would be extremely quick to go to Japan's defense should such a thing happen, the same with South Korea. Then again, who knows these days.

It worked with Germany, but looking at the German reunification, it would torpedo South Korea's economy. West Germany took a hit to their economy when they unified with the East, and the gap between the ROK and DPRK is even bigger than the two Germanys. Not to say they couldn't recover, it'd just be a big setback.
