22 years.

Got divorced because they disagree politically.

Funniest part about this is that she claims they are still friends.

So the "he's an asshole" thing falls flat. She just couldn't accept that he thought differently to her

I cant imagine sharing my life with someone for that long, and this being the clincher. Sharing what so much of yourself with someone that you would freak out over a vote. There's things about myself I've never told to anyone on this planet but my wife. My wife and I are about to hit 18 years in October, and if she were to tell me something political she never told me before, I'd probably be like "okay". And that'd be the end of it.

Won't make a difference. I don't really give a damn about Trump tbh, but to say he readily promotes oppression and marginalization is just asinine. I don't doubt he had a hand in some form of oppression or marginalization, but he doesn't go out in front of everyone and "readily promote" it. He's stupid, but I don't think he's quite that stupid.

I dunno. I'm fairly certain I recall that my wife would have or was at least considering to vote for him when he was still viable. My point is, politics is so low on my list of things that upset me, that I can't imagine divorcing my wife over something as stupid as it.

Tbf most of the shit posting in this thread is people taking the extreme standpoint of people's political views. And there's a lot of that type of shit posting when it comes to politics on this forum. However, any and all reasons, that the state recognizes as divorce is valid. I just call into question what mindset a person would have that has been married to a person for 22 years, that this would come as a surprise. As others have stated there has to be more to it than that. Because yes while your vote does change the political landscape, but to think that one vote for one candidate makes them an awful person is being willingly combative and ignorant.

If her husband's politics bothered her that much, how the hell did they make it 22 years together in the first place. Most people don't just magically change there political views to such an extreme opposite of what they were before that him voting for Trump, really surprised her.

Every staunch Republican or even just conservative person I know, that has always voted Republican, did so in this election too. Most of all the staunch Democrats or even just liberal person I know, either voted Hillary or third party.

I still can't understand her surprise, if he was a conservative/Republican voter before. I can get that people are shitty about their political opinions. A lot of my wife's family is to her because she's liberal. But I also know I am conservative and my wife and I can have the most civil discussions about politics. Even passionate, and agree to disagree and still go to the same bed together.

I just feel like only knowing her biased (naturally) side of the story, there has to be something more than this to it. Or she just really is that petty; at least in my opinion.
