I actually care about the gameplay more than both of those, and I play games all the freaking time.

I guess that makes me not a real gamer.

Well back then graphics did mean a thing, since the jump was so big (Super mario world to Super mario 64, or Final Fantasy 6 to Final Fantasy 7 for example), nowadays it's either photorealistic pieces than are capped at 30fps, of cartoony looks to cater to nostalgia but not much variation within the same styles and games.

gaming and gameplay is still really limited as far as potential goes, least of all due to the weaker hardware of consoles which is why heavy scripted events on a much smaller, focused scaled are so prevalent in "AAA" games as opposed to seemingly true freedom on a grand scale like:

The words "grand scale" kind of put me off personally. It seems like devs often prioritize scale over depth, which leads to shallow, boring experiences at times.

I'd rather they work on improving things like AI (which is notoriously difficult to be fair), interactivity, physics, environmental detail, etc. and offer a tight, focused experience. Something on the scale of DX: Mankind Divided (putting aside its flaws for a moment) with improvements in those areas would be more my kind of thing.

Also, I feel like interiors in (open world) games are often overlooked too. You have sprawling outdoor areas and only a few buildings. I'd like a non-linear game that does opposite and contains large, detailed indoor areas.

not much so ever since the indie game scene blew up into mainstream - just look at PC exclusive Undertale and how Minecraft started as PC pre-release playing.

Yeah, I find that it's the opposite honestly. Of course, you have those "PC master race" people, but for the most part, PC gamers don't seem to mind playing older or graphically weak games (although admittedly, it can be more difficult to do that with consoles), and are often denigrated for it by console gamers ("lol, imagine paying all that money for a PC and playing League of Legends" or "lol, we already played that game 10 years ago"). AAA games aren't as popular on PC for the most part (although the greater choice and piracy probably contribute to an extent).

Then you have the console wars of course. The Wii and WiiU were commonly seen as underpowered, and the Switch too really. Various multiplats caused no end of arguments despite the differences being minor, like FFXIII, Red Dead Redemption, GTA V, etc. Then you have popular remasters of games that only just came out in the previous gen (The Last Of Us, GTA V, Skyrim, etc.).

Then you have the video in the OP. It's only natural to justify your choice of console, especially if you're loyal to a particular brand. The PC, on the other hand, isn't under any particular brand. At the top end, the PC is so far ahead of consoles that it's not really a contest. The average PC is actually weaker than the latest consoles though.

Again, I'm not saying there aren't PC gamers that care a lot about graphics (of course there are), but I just get the impression console gamers actually care that bit more, which I think is fair enough.

Really, there's something to be said for fast-paced games that can be finished in an afternoon. Not every game has to be some 100+ hour epic with no replay value

Some of my favorite games ever can be finished in under 12 hours. To put it out there, Fable: TLC is a much better game to me than Red Dead Redemption.

Super Metroid is pretty much my ultimate game and that can be finished in under an hour. The only things I'd really change are the controls (using some of the improvements in Fusion / Zero Mission) and that stupid save point at the end that's past the point of no return.

Morrowind is a strange one. It can be beaten in 5 minutes (way less than even SM), but has a shit-load of content. You can play it for like 200 hours and still not discover everything lol. I love the openness of it, which goes beyond even the later games.
