probably the last thing in life I feel really nostalgic for tbh. it came out at such a good time for what it was, and seemingly everybody in the world was going crazy about it. such a fun time in gaming, too bad the console disappointed in the long run.

has there been anything even mildly exciting in gaming anymore? Even VR is kinda just like... eh

The already long Nintendo Switch longs have gotten that much longer. Meaning? Things are suddenly more unpleasant for those wanting to buy a Switch.

As Kotaku previously reported, the console has been drawing long lines for months afters its release, and well-known game creator Hideki Kamiya recounted his unsuccessful attempt at trying to buy one. While those were long lines, the most recent ones in Tokyo and Osaka are brutal.

A massive line formed this morning at the Yodobashi Camera in Tokyo’s Akihabara. It was apparently over three thousand people long!

The store only had 250 Nintendo Switch consoles!

Remember, folks are lining up for a chance to buy. When game consoles are in short supply, Japanese retailers hold raffles. These are typically done in the morning, so while you probably don’t need to camp out overnight, you do need to get in line. People waiting get a number, there is a drawing and those with the winning numbers can buy the console.

Summers are hot and humid in Japan, and here we have thousands of people waiting hours for a chance to spend money. If they don’t win, they’ll go home empty-handed and sweaty.

ah yes, for sure a great moment in gaming. I didn't get to experience it too much since I live in a small town but I was sucked in by the hype for sure. I'll look back on the launch of Pokemon Go very fondly.

A kind Gamestop employee gave me his Wii on launch day because I couldn't get a reserve and I reminded him of his brother, who also has Aspergers.

same. I remember we woke up very early for a couple weeks every saturday to go prowling for one. We almost got one once, but someone right ahead of us got it. My mom ended up finding a good deal online and snatching it a few months after release. But still, it had that much of a pull to get my parents involved.

It's been nearly five months since the Switch launched and three thousand people lined up for a chance at 250 systems. The Wii didn't have that.
