Cell saga has that great payoff to that epic buildup of Gohan that we've seen and waited for all that time, so it's hard to decide which has the better ending Cell or Freeza, but in terms of overall quality, even with the zenkai nonsense I'd say that Freiza saga is still the best out of all them.

As far as waiting for Goku goes, they did it best here, with that kinda urgency where they're on a far away planet, don't know the terrain, desperately trying to survive against a terrifying powerful tyrant and collecting the dragon balls to wish their friends back, while forming an uneasy alliance with a guy who has and will betray them. The stakes seemed much higher there so when Goku finally does arrive on namek to rescue them from the ginyu force you cheer because it's that much more satisfying.

And they built up freeza as the horrible dictator who's ruled countless galaxies, brought back the whole saiyan planet wipe full circle. They didn't do something out of the blue like "there was a guy in the red ribbon army never even mentioned in the original dragon ball and he created cyborgs that were more powerful than even freeza"

Fuck the frieza saga. The initial confrontation with Gohan, Krillin, and Vegeta to the end with him being beat must've been a solid 30 episodes.

Namek was incredibly boring planet.

Same generic green/blue mountain settings everywhere.

Power scaling got really stupid and out of control.

Goku went from like 90k to at least 3 million from getting close to death and getting healed? Piccolo fuses with a half dead guy and went from weaker than a 4k power level to over a million. Vegeta did the same thing but ended up weaker despite starting from a stronger base?

Krillin could have solar flare ---> destructo disc Freeza at any point and ended the saga, but didn't?

I thought Krillin tried destructo disc and it failed? If I remember right Frieza dodged it, but Krillin was counting on that and had it reverse to hit Frieza from behind, and he dodged it last second any way. I don't remember what happened from there.
