Title could have easily been "Asshole cop rides the ass of car and then causes massive pile-up"

That's 100% on the civilian. He had plenty of room to change lanes 20-30 seconds into that.

And cops don't give a shit about people speeding in the left lane, that's what it's for. Unless you're going like 30 over the limit. Hell I drive home from six flags one night with a friend following me and two different times I had a cop get behind me between us. It was like 2am so I thought it was my friend trying to get me to go faster so I sped up to like 90 for a couple minutes before I realized it was a cop. I just switched lanes and they didn't even stop me for speeding

I used to have to go 80 in rush hour traffic going to Boston in the morning because that's how fast everyone goes

How about not travelling below the speed limit? Too difficult a concept for most drivers?

No, my words are being taken out of context after I replied to something that didn't even address my original question.

The left lane is for whatever the fuck you want the left lane to be. Don't listen to those fruitcakes

Stay the fuck off the road

Maybe you should stay the fuck off the road if you're going to leave an entire lane empty and drastically slow the flow of traffic

I will stay on the road since I actually know how traffic laws work

If a law is wrong, you're duty-bound to disobey it. It's one thing to know a law, it's another to blindly follow it.

I agree. Driving below the speed limit in good weather is wrong, you should be going faster.

In the case of this guy, it was morally wrong for him to be in the left lane. He is a piece of garbage.

The cop was being an asshole.

Cops can literally pull you over for going 1 mph over the speed limit in most places and give you a ticket which results in most people slowing the fuck down when a cop is behind them.

Its a catch 22. The cop can pull you cover for going the above the speed limit and apparently the cop can pull you over for going exactly the speed limit. We don't even know which we are seeing in this video. For all you know this guy was going 52 in a 50 and the cop gave him a speeding ticket.

lol I live in Massachusetts I'm never gonna get stopped for doing 80-90 on the highway. I only go 5 over on regular streets

On a slightly related note, we have some toll roads around Austin that the speed limit is actually posted as 85 mph. It is incredible!

I've done the drive from Dallas to Austin a few times and love the high limit roads.

That's not how it works. If you plan to go the speed limit or under, you need to be in the right lane. You can drive in the left lane if you're going fast enough to be actively passing the people on the right. If the traffic in the right lane is going 65 in a 55, you need to be going faster than that to be in the left lane. Period.

So... what's not how it works? I didn't see anything in there that argues that the "passing lane" concept has any flow rate advantage over doing it the rational way.

I just described the rational way. Only entering the left lane if you're planning to go faster than the people in the right lane. Traffic as a whole moves much faster when people follow this.

The rule of the road is if you are in the far left hand lane and someone is coming up behind you at a faster rate than you are traveling, you get the fuck over into the next lane as soon as safely possible and allow them to pass. The fact that the cop had to turn on his lights to get him into the proper lane proves mostly ignorance as well as lack of tact on the driver's part.

Moves faster but with a lower cross-section, so lower flow rate.

I suppose these rules are for places where traffic looks like this:

Instead of this:

http://www.interstream.com/files/images/DiamondLanePic.png

The rule of the road is if you are in the far left hand lane and someone is coming up behind you at a faster rate than you are traveling, you get the f*** over into the next lane as soon as safely possible and allow them to pass. The fact that the cop had to turn on his lights to get him into the proper lane proves mostly ignorance as well as lack of tact on the driver's part.

And not allowing people to pass on the right leaves you with no recourse for the inevitable asshole who doesn't do what he's supposed to.

Except he lit the guy up at the point where he was completely boxed in by traffic and unable to do anything of the sort.

Not that I think what you're saying is true but in a situation where that needed to happen the one thing the cop should be worrying about is leaving the person he's running off the road a clear path. Otherwise he's risking the lives of everyone on the road.
