Valkyrie Profile does something similar but different.

Yeah the only need nteresting quirk in Chrono was aiming techs to that other enemies might get caught up in too.

Iirc Shadow Madness on PS1 does in true form like Super Mario RPG but it's been almost 20 years since I played that game and could be wrong.
