It's Generic Action Movie in Space. It's meant to appeal to the lowest common denominator.

It has almost nothing to do with Star Trek other than setting.

I know this? Maybe that's why I like it.

And to erik, if that were the case, you'd be the one loving it. It's far from generic. There's an insane amount of heart and love put into these movies.

@FrozenBananas to the part I bolded.

Thank you for the laugh.

Massive Trekkie here. I have been watching Star Trek for 29 years and I DO NOT acknowledge the existence of these fucking shit "reboot" movies.

"Oh look lets change over 40 years of established canon. Oh we'd better put it in an "Alternate Universe" to stop the hardcore fans coming at us with torches and pitchforks"!

The original cast is the crew of The Enterprise NCC - 1701 not these fucking joke nobodies.

J.J Abrams went to a convention once and was jeered and booed of the stage as the hardcore fans didn't want him there.

Wasn't it Into Darkness that was panned by everyone?

For me Star Trek ended with "These Are The Voyages" the final episode of Star Trek: Enterprise.

I would much rather be tied to chair, have my eyelids taped open and made to watch the freaking horrendous jokes that were Star Trek Insurrection and Star Trek Nemesis until I am doing a great impression of Captain Picard from "Chain Of Command" than ever watch those "reboot" movies.

I have all the original movies, the original series, TNG, Voyager, and the new reboot movies.

I love them all. Stop being hateful little fanboys and just enjoy the damn movies. Or don't. Who cares.

That's all I read. I never said it honors the legacy before it. I never said people who loved the original series should love this (in fact I'm sure they don't)

I'm just saying it's great cinema. And there can still be heart put into the film even if it's different than the original series.

In fact I've said IN THIS TOPIC that one of the main reasons I love it is because it's completely different from the original.

@FrozenBananas Re the part I bolded.

That is correct.

The Original Series is my all time favourite series and that is the crew of The United Starship Enterprise NCC 1701 not those fucking jokes in the movies.

William Shatner is Captain James Tiberius Kirk always has been always will be.

In my opinion what they did in those fucking shit "reboot" movies was blasphemous and total sacrilege to the honour of the original cast.

Apparently Into Darkness was so shit they felt as though they had to stick Carol Marcus into her underwear just to get people to watch that garbage.

Like I said for me Star Trek is from "The Cage" to "These Are The Voyages".

I see all the casuals are out in force in this thread. This thread shows the difference between the casuals and the hardcore Trekkies/Trekkers as the hardcore fans (like myself) want nothing to do with these movies.

@MICHALECOLE

Go and watch Star Trek: The Wrath Of Khan, Star Trek: The Voyage Home, Star Trek: The Undiscovered Country and Star Trek: First Contact and you will see just how shit the "reboot" movies are.

I'm a giant Trek fan and though the JJ verse movies get a lot of poop flung on them I'd be lying if I said I didn't enjoy them all at least a bit.

But

Into Darkness should have never tried to flip flop Wrath of Khan. "John Harrison" should have been someone else. Alice Eve in her panties was pointless (looked good, but pointless). Spock all "KHAAAAAAANNN!!!" was not only laughable it somehow cheapened the movie it was trying to pay homage to. Magic blood? Transporters that can beam from Earth to "CHRONOS" because that makes sense now and let's just rename the Klingon home world just because....

The only good thing about Into Darkness was namedropping Section 31 from DS9.

THERE. ARE. FOUR... LIGHTS!!

I always liked Insurrection. They said it was like a two part TNG episode. There's worse things out there. Nemesis was pretty bad. Why was Picard at the academy in that picture bald? B-4. Dune buggies. What a terrible send off to a great crew.

Maybe, but the aesthetics smack of more JJ crap, as another prequel because that worked so well with ENT.
