Dude looked so happy that I let him go. ^_^ As someone who 100%'d the game, I'll field this. Short version is it's a Metroidvania with an emphasis on exploring and melee based combat. The world feels very Dark Souls-esque and it has a difficulty that matches that at times (git gud scrub is one of the two pieces of advice I give most people. The other is backtrack and explore for stuff you missed). The game is absolutely HUGE, with a large array of bosses and secrets to find. If you like 2D platformers, I highly recommend it. Just be aware that a standard first time run takes around 40 hours typically.
