If it is significantly worse now than it was, I wonder what is the major factor in this change?

I'm pretty sure we were fat back then too. But inactivity due to modern conveniences, poor food choices, age, genetics...

Huh? Can you expand on this 'genetics' part? Your entire post fits the stereotype perfectly.

If your parents are fat, you're more likely to be fat. For a variety of reasons, but some of that is genetics. I'm not overweight myself but that's because I've seen my dad and his family and my grandparents and cousins mostly have weight problems, and I know how easy it is for people in our family to gain weight. I know that the moment I stop working out or start eating poorly, my body is likely to start ballooning. It's not impossible for me to stay thin but it's going to be harder for me than most, because of genetics.

Anecdotes? Seriously?

There is literally no condition that prevents you from losing weight, there is also no condition that magically balloons you up. If you are fat, then that is your fault entirely. It's completely voluntary. PCOS doesn't prevent you from losing weight, lymphedema only transfers fat from one part of the body to another. Our metabolisms do not differ enough to affect weight. Long term weight loss or weight gain also has no permanent effects on your metabolism.

Yeah keep making excuses tubby, the fact of the matter is BMRs have a standard deviation of 140 calories, so barring legitimate medical anomalies there's no excuse for being obese.

I'm not overweight. Already said this. Just noting commonalities within my extended family. And even then I said that genetics was just one of many factors at pla--oh you're a troll my bad fuck you.

The only way I could see genetics being linked to fat is child obesity. But that's not genetics, just poor parenting. If you're a fat kid, then that's a completely different topic.

It's definitely easiesr for some people to gain weight, 100% true. That just means you need to change your diet. Different metabolic rates and builds are a thing so you can't ignore that. Just because it's not an excuse for being obese doesn't mean it isn't real.

Scientists have listed several possible direct and indirect factors that genetics influence. Honestly what you personally claim to see isn't relevant.

Regardless, genes are just one of many factors and I have my theories as to why people get so angry when you suggest that even a tiny percentage of the issue is out of one's control, or that it's way nor difficult for some than for others.

From Asherlee's link:

"Nevertheless, the variation in how people respond to the same environment suggests that genes do play a role in the development of obesity."

These studies have identified variants in several genes that may contribute to obesity by increasing hunger and food intake.

"Tales from thin air" indeed. But you can stay angry if you must.

That's why just going off BMI is dumb since there are a ton of body structures and it completely ignores muscle versus fat. Sure, most of the obesity percentage is just fat people, but America has a lot of fit people that would be considered fat too since bodybuilding and all that other stuff is incredibly popular here.

Yeah. I mean I get calling everything Coke in a casual context, but when you're trying to actually discuss that type of beverage it gets way too confusing when you use Coke as the "official" term.

Yeah, I've seen a lot of obese people coming and going at my work. I work at a grocery store. Most of the time I see people buying soda, brownies, cookies, hotdogs, hamburger, frozen pizzas, etc.

But I'm not judging. They can do whatever they want. It's not my body.

True. It's cheaper to buy junk food than healthy food.

It's really not though. Bananas $.50/pound, Potato chips, like $7/pound.

Not a really good way to do that.

Its like 2.50 for 2000 calories in a bag of chips. Its like 2 for 300 calories in bananas.

You could eat a bag of chips and be done for the day eith your calories. You have to spend like $14 to do the same with bananas. Eating healthier does always cost more.
