Sports by far. The money in the NFL alone is somewhere about 62 billion with just a quick google search.

I'm not a fan either. I just recognize the amount of money that the NFL moves around. Merchandise and game tickets and whatever else.

Your average person could have listed out the entire Dream Team or some of the top 20 NFL greats back then. Today, I'd be hard pressed to name more than 4-5 NBA stars that are active, same for NFL.

Most of the time, if I know their name it's because they were in a scandal and I saw it on the news.

Theres way more stuff for you to do now then there was in the 90s. You dont watch TV as a much i would guess either.

I used to watch live TV daily in the 90s as a kid. Other than the NBA finals its probably been 2 years since i watched a show live.
