Provocative title, but the old man made a horrible deal.

First of all, since he was collecting since the wheat penny days, he already had a fuckton of pennies worth more than a cent. perhaps he has an extremely rare error or something? Also, pennies from a certain year, I think 82 but i forget, are made out of actual copper and are worth at melt value more than a penny. those, which of has a ton of, would be worth more than a cent.

He might have indian head pennies, key dates, jesus christ who knows what.

I can see the old guy not wanting to deal with it but i could see people paying a hefty fee for it, honestly. there just has to be some home rumes amongst 80,000 pennies coming from the mid 1900s onward...

The steel penny from one of the '40s is worth 6-figures.

i had some indian head pennies but i threw them away because they're only worth like 2 cents

It's the term "gunpoint" used in the title. Even if we weren't to take it literally (and when only the title is all you have to go by before you click, you sorta have to) the term would *at the very least* indicate that this was not done by choice, or willfully, but against your better judgment. This guy did this completely by choice.
